We know the traditional CBT tricks, but these are new modifications:
Adaptations to our original CBT program
(Wood, McLeod, & Sigman, 2000)
were based on
research & clinical experience in working with
children with ASD.

Examples of adaptations:

Expanded emotion education & thought
monitoring skills training using visual stimuli

Friendship skills for youth (Frankel et al., 1998)

Peer “buddy” and “playdate” programs at school
and home to increase social engagement

“Social coaching” at home and school

Independence / self-help skills focus
