Facing attacks from outside and growing unease within, Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on Sunday “reprimanded” several top party leaders who had made controversial comments on the Dadri lynching and beef row after Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced “extreme displeasure” over their actions. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan, Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj and Uttar Pradesh MLA Sangeet Som, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, were “summoned” to BJP president Amit Shah’s office where they were “reprimanded” and warned against making comments that “threaten to derail” the Modi government’s “positive agenda”, a senior party functionary said.

“Khattar, Balyan, Sakshi Maharaj and Som were summoned to Amit Shah’s office and were reprimanded in person for their controversial utterances as because of these the positive agenda of the Modi government like employment generation, poverty reduction and development get somewhat derailed,” he said.
The BJP functionary said “displeasure” was also telephonically conveyed to MoS for culture and tourism Mahesh Sharma.

Besides, a message has been sought to be conveyed to the entire party hierarchy that leaders should desist from making statements that create unnecessary controversy. People prone to making controversial statements have also been conveyed the party’s unhappiness,” he said.
The move came a day after one of BJP’s oldest allies Shiromani Akali Dal termed the lynching of a Muslim man in Dadri last month over beef eating rumours a “shame” for the country and said what happened after that was “damaging the prime minister more than anybody else”.

SAD MP Naresh Gujral had said, “What happened after the lynching incident in UP is damaging the National Democratic Alliance, the BJP and damaging the PM more than anybody else.”

He deplored that “motormouths” were not paying heed to even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that no action was being taken against them.
“But unfortunately, no action has been taken against anybody... motormouths are not paying heed to what the PM has said. It is high time some action is taken against anybody so that a strong message goes all the way in Sangh Parivar that this kind of nonsense will not be tolerated,” he had said.
However, Congress dismissed Shah’s exercise as “mere gimmick” and “empty formality” after the “horse has bolted”.
“What is the point of closing stable door after horse has bolted? For 18 months such divisive and provocative statements and actions have been recurring with monotonous regularity. So, after 18 months Amit Shah has found time to chastise MPs and ministers.

The reprimand was not that what they were saying was wrong, but it makes Modi look bad!!!!!!!!
It is very essential to warn hate monger politician as wrong massage is going on not only in the country but all over the world. Progress of the nation should be 1st priority. Prime Minister is trying his best to develop our nation. Everybody should help him instead of disturbing the peace of the country.

Party sources are still holding their breath on whether the dressing-down will help to silence the controversial comments from their leaders.
People termed the gag order a “gimmick” and a mere formality. “What is the point of closing the door after the horse has bolted? For 18 months, such divisive and provocative statements and actions have been recurring with monotonous regularity. It is obviously an empty formality. Mr. Modi has still not found time and continues to practise deafening silence” .

History will repeat, surely! The present meeting might have been to request the RSS mouthpieces to keep quiet till Bihar elections are over. Please note that Sadhwi Prachi was left unreprimanded!

President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday reiterated his message of unity and urged the nation to resist evil powers in society.
"Indian civilization has survived for 5000 years because of its tolerance," the President said, adding, "Indian civilization has always accepted dissent and differences."

Addressing a gathering in Birbhum, West Bengal, the President asked "Is tolerance and acceptance of dissent on wane?"

"Assimilation through receiving is a characteristic of Indian society. Our collective strength must be harnessed to resist evil powers in society," the President said.

"Humanism and pluralism should not be abandoned under any circumstances," he said, adding, "We have a Constitution that accommodates all these differences."

Greeting people on the eve of Durga Puja celebrations, Mukherjee expressed the hope that "Mahamaya - the combination of all positive forces would eliminate the Asuras or divisive forces."

In a similar appeal earlier this month, President Pranab Mukherjee had said core values of India's civilization that celebrate diversity, plurality and tolerance should not be allowed to wither away.

Under fire from its allies and the Opposition — and nervous over reports that the party is losing the edge in Bihar — the BJP on Sunday “reprimanded” some of its top leaders for their controversial remarks on the Dadri lynching and cow slaughter. The move came a day after its ally, the Shiromani Akali Dal, warned the Centre that “fringe elements” were hurting its credibility with “irresponsible utterances”.

BJP chief Amit Shah summoned Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan, MP Sakshi Maharaj and Uttar Pradesh MLA Sangeet Som to the party office in the morning and pulled them up for “making unnecessary inflammatory remarks”. Sources said Shah’s message was directed at Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma as well, though Sharma was not present at the meeting.
According to party sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his disapproval over the statements and conveyed his displeasure to Shah. He is learnt to have directed Shah to issue a strict warning against such remarks.

Their remarks are being seen to have acted as a dampener on the party’s chances in the high-voltage Bihar poll battle. While the BJP was believed to have an edge before polling began, there are reports that it may have lost some ground. Sources said Modi wanted to send across the message of development to the youth in Bihar, but the remarks by his senior party leaders on cow slaughter played spoilsport.
They said Shah was upset that in the process the SP government in Uttar Pradesh had been let off the hook. In fact, the SP joined others in attacking the BJP.
Amid the statements of BJP leaders in the aftermath of the Dadri killing, many prominent writers also returned their awards to register their protest.

If Modi really upset then why not reprimand them publicly? Or is it just a ploy?
