Amid rage over ‘Love Jihad’ what about what women want? Abhishek Saha, Hindustan Time

Two cases, in particular, are oft cited by Hindutva activists. Late last year, Sneha, a BEd student who had received an employment letter from the state education department and was all set to become a teacher, was raped and killed on her way home in nearby Bantwal town. The other case is that of Soujanya, another young girl who was raped and killed, and whose body was found near Belthangady earlier this year. According to saffron activists, both were suspected ‘love jihad’ victims and their killers are still at large.

Perla says that saffron outfits used to assume all missing women were victims of ‘love jihad’, but were stunned into silence last year after the arrest of Cyanide Mohan, a serial killer who admitted that he had abducted, raped and killed 21 women in the region.

Still, the noise over an alleged increase in cases of ‘love jihad’ is rising to alarming levels. “But we could not find any such cases,” says Naronha, “It is like Goebbel’s propaganda. A lie told a hundred times becomes ‘the truth’, but there is no evidence.” He feels these canards are being spread by the Sangh to keep intact the BJP’s Hindu support, which is essential to the party’s chances of re-election.

Whether it will work is doubtful. Ordinary Mangaloreans are fed up of saffron goons trying to bully society into behaving how they would like. “It’s not just that they are involved in pub and homestay attacks, church attacks, seizing cows and other such acts of vandalism, they have divided society so badly that the youth are afraid to talk to youngsters of other communities, go out together or even go for that great common excuse—combined studies. Even parents are scared and keep a close watch on where their wards go, or with whom they sup, especially after the homestay and pub attacks,” says Naronha.

What is love jihad, asks Rajnath Singh:

At a time when some BJP leaders are raking up the controversial 'love jihad' issue, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said he had "no idea" about it.

What is love jihad? was his prompt reply with a smile when he was asked about his views on it.

Many BJP leaders including Lakshmikant Bajpayee and Yogi Adityanath have raised the issue ahead of the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

"Arey yeh hai kya. Hume nahi maloom (What is this. I don't know)," was Singh's reply when reporters drew his attention towards BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat issuing statements asking Hindu girls to stay away from Muslims.

Singh's reply led to peals of laughter from the scribes, who had gathered for his press conference on first 100 days of the Union Home Ministry.

"I have no idea," was the only response from Singh when he was persistently queried about the 'love jihad' statements of various leaders who have claimed that Muslims were marrying Hindu girls and then getting them converted.

Adityanath had recently stated that "jihad in the name of love is unacceptable" and that only a BJP-led state government can "stop forceful conversion of Hindu girls".

Would someone show him a newspaper or TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leading Muslim clerics, scholars and intellectuals here have welcomed the official stand taken by Islamic seminary at Deoband on ' love jihad'.

In a joint statement issued on Saturday, three leading clerics and senior faculty members at the Department of Sunni Theology, Aligarh Muslim University, while welcoming the Deoband seminary's stand also urged the media not to fall prey to communal politics by exaggerating and sensationalising isolated cases of interreligious marriages.

The seminary had on Friday in a statement said that if any individual Muslim youth tries to lure away and cheat any girl belonging to a different religion and attempts to convert her through dubious means, then such a marriage is an illegitimate and Illegal act.

The seminary also alleged that the issue of so called ' love Jihad' was being whipped up by some political groups for polarising society. "The Deoband seminary's diktat on so called 'Love Jihad' should finally put to rest any doubts which some people may have regarding the religious validity of such acts of misdemeanor committed by individuals," the joint statement issued by Mufti Zahid Ali Khan, Chairman, Department of Sunni Theology, Dr Mohd Saleem Qasmi and Dr Ahsanullah Fahad said.

The clerics have urged the media to "be extra careful" before giving publicity to those incidents which are designed to divide society and weaken the country's social fabric.

In a separate statement, secretary of Millat Bedari Muhim Committee Jasim Mohammad said that the Deoband seminary's stand should be welcomed by all responsible sections of society. The bogey of Love Jihad should now be put to rest because it is causing irreparable damage to country's unity and communal amity.

It has taken a decade for rotherham and glasgow to wake up. Kerala court, kerala cm and bishops know 'love jihad'. UP, bengal, haryana and karnataka are just waking up. What is known to the majority but played down by media and secularists has to come to the surface sooner or later.

A special marriage act with checks, and a court hearing in the presence of elders from both sides will ensure that there is no pressure or threat but only love.

During Moghul rule Hindus especially Brahmins were persecuted..There are countless tales of the artocities of Ghazni, Aurangazed, Tipu Sultan, Haidar Ali etc

We should be able to defend our folks from the marauding Muslims..

Love jihad is nothing but a ploy to alter the demographics of the Hindu country!

We should take all the precautions to prevent this!

The ‘Love’ Patrol: This too needs publicity.

Tyagi and his 100-plus team of RSS volunteers attend calls, upload Facebook messages, go door-to-door and hold protests in western UP against ‘love jihad’, armed with Google Maps, WhatsApp and lawyers

Ajay Tyagi, 44, the owner of the farmhouse and the convenor of this unit of the samiti, begins his day early, at 7 am. He runs his “office” from the outer courtyard of his big house. Here, he and some Sangh Parivar volunteers go through local Hindi newspapers as well as gather and pass around information gleaned on WhatsApp.

Just then, Tyagi gets a call on his mobile from a family in Khajuri village, around 30 km away. The caller claims his daughter is being forced into conversion and that the family is receiving threats. Tyagi and five others immediately get into his Toyota Fortuner to head there.
At the village, Tyagi convinces the father and girl to go with him to the Kharkhoda Police Station, where an FIR is lodged against three Muslim youths.

Tyagi insists what he did was essential. “‘Love jihad’ is the latest design to target our sisters and daughters. We will not let this happen anymore and I have devoted myself fully to the cause — body, spirit and soul.”

Tyagi claims to receive 15 to 20 calls a day, like the one he just gor from Khajuri. “We prioritise these and work on cases nearby immediately.” The Kharkhoda unit came up on August 10, following an incident of alleged forcible conversion in nearby Sarawa village, where a woman claimed to have been kidnapped and “raped” in a madarsa. Tyagi had led a team there and, following their protests over “inaction” of the police, the SHO, Kharkhoda, had been suspended and an FIR lodged. The current Kharkhoda Police Station in-charge Shetabh Pandey says the police don’t have a communal or casteist bias. “We have lodged an FIR in the Khajuri village case and also arrested a Muslim youth. In the Sarawa incident, all the 10 accused named by the victim have been arrested.”

“I am thankful to the media for making ‘love jihad’ a major issue,” says Tyagi. Around a dozen lawyers are associated with the samiti and offer their services free. On Monday, they will be going to Rataur village in Baghpat district where communal tension prevails following an alleged bid to convert a Dalit youth who is involved with a Muslim girl. The youth is not willing to convert, but doesn’t want to give up the girl, says Rakesh. “Locals”, he claims, have approached them. “This is the first such case for us as normally we get calls from fathers of girls.” As Tyagi and team pay visits, a team of around 100 RSS workers travels door to door in the area, telling parents about the “helpline” they run. Areas have been narrowed down and routes decided with the help of Google Maps. People are told to approach immediately if they suspect Muslim youths of “luring their daughters”. Ninety per cent of these RSS workers are students, and most of them aged between 18 and 25 years.

So how many cases would Tyagi say they have solved “successfully”, after more than a month of 24X7 “operations”, covering entire western Uttar Pradesh? “Eight daughters,” says Tyagi.”

No official complaint on 'love jihad' so far: Maneka

Women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi on Wednesday said her ministry has not received any official complaint relating to 'love jihad', but as an MP she has been apprised of a few such cases.

Asked about the issue of "love jihad", Gandhi said at a press conference here, "...We have had no official complaint in the ministry, so as a minister, I cannot say that we have..." "However, as a member of Parliament, in my constituency people have come and complained to me and there have been about seven to eight such cases which we have referred to the police. So I am going to separate the two," she added.

Responding to another question, Gandhi sought to clarify her earlier controversial remarks suggesting that money earned from illegal animal slaughter was being used for perpetrating acts of terrorism. Gandhi said she was quoting from a report of the Uttar Pradesh police. She also said that a leading daily had put that report of the UP police on its front page.

She was asked to comment on the reversals suffered by her party in the recent bypolls, especially in UP. "That's so sad, I work so hard. I can't answer a political question here because I am confined to the ministry. But as far as I know, I work really hard and that's not fair," she said. Asked whether she would like to comment on the absence of star campaigners, including her son Varun, during the bypolls, she said, "Absolutely not", and then quipped "....okay, so now we are just going to bring him back".

If no official complaint, why run with that it? Are you acting just like AAP? You are in power, not in opposition. BJP was elected with a large majority, in case menekaji (and your mouthpieces) you did not hear it.

Amid raging controversy over the party's chief ministerial candidate in Bihar, the state BJP has been rocked by another strife with former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and MP Giriraj Singh taking opposite views over the 'Love Jihad' issue. "I am not opposed to the inter-religious marriage between Muslim and Hindu couples so long as forced conversion of a partner is not involved," Modi told PTI on Thursday.
Sushil Modi discards theory of 'love jihad', Giriraj Singh makes jibes at him | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

<removed>. No one is objecting to inter religious marriage. Objection is for marriage by deceit, blackmail, intimidation, kidnapping, conversion, money power, and pretending to be a hindu till marriage.
Muslims will not accept an IR marriage unless there is conversion. A church wedding also needs conversion.
Legislation for IR marriages is to stop all such marriages especially when done without the knowledge and approval of girl's parents.

Even the sikh girl from rotherham who was cheated and abused for years said that the muslim boy behaved like a sikh, wore sikh symbols, gave her a mobile, paid all her bills, fed and entertained her lavishly, took obscene pictures before blackmailing her.

What the media reported on modi and giriraj singh must be taken with a pot full of salt. The media always drown their words with their bias.

Husband denies forcing Tara Shahdeo to convert
B Vijay Murty, Hindustan Times Ranchi

‘Love jihad’ accused Ranjit Kohli alias Raqibul Hassan Khan, 37, has during his interrogation with the Jharkhand police denied that he forced his wife, ace shooter Tara Sahdeo to convert her religion, but did confess that they had a nikah ceremony two days after their Hindu wedding.

“I have not officially converted to Islam. All my official documents carry my name as Ranjit Singh Kohli,” he told the police.

The Jharkhand high court suspended its registrar general for allegedly convincing Sahdeo to marry Kohli.

Sahdeo had accused Kohli of duping her into marriage by concealing his religious affiliation and then tried coercing her to embrace Islam. She also claimed that he mentally and physically tortured her.

According to Sahdeo, Mustaq Ahmed, the registrar, was present in the nikah ceremony and used to visit Kohli often. However, she had not named him in her complaint.

On the other hand, Kohli told the police that he and Sahdeo had an argument but it got sorted out. A couple of days later, he left to Delhi and was shocked to learn that his wife was levelling accusations against him.

The police have said that they are yet to come across evidence that Kohli changed his name to Raqibul and they have found no links connecting him to known terror groups or to flesh trade racketeers. The issue has already gained political mileage, with the Union home ministry asking the state to submit a report into the purported case of love jihad.
Kohli and his mother Kausal Rani were produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Ranchi, on Thursday, which sent them into 14 days judicial custody. Kohli claimed the case solely related to family affairs connected with Section 498 A and urged the court to prosecute him under only the said section.

Was it all a made up story?

U-turn by Meerut girl on ‘love jihad’
Denying rumours of “love jihad,” a 22-year-old woman from Meerut, who earlier alleged gang rape and forced conversion sending western Uttar Pradesh on the boil in August, said on Sunday that she had run away with a Muslim man out of her own free will. She approached the police complaining of a threat from her family, and in a written statement, denied rape or conversion.

When the woman allegedgang rape and forced conversion in August, several BJP leaders, including Yogi Adityanath, the BJP’s bypoll campaign in-charge in the State, took up the issue.

The allegation by the former madrasa teacher came close on the heels of the Saharanpur riots, sending western Uttar Pradesh on the boil. The Sangh Parivar and affiliated groups took up the case as a textbook example of “love jihad” — the headline-grabbing term used by Hindutva activists as an Islamist conspiracy to lure and convert Hindu women.

Right-wing Hindu groups launched an elaborate campaign in the State against “love jihad” in which they claimed Muslim men lured Hindu girls, tricked them into marriage and forced them to accept Islam.

Another misuse of the media to create strife with aid from BJP

I cant understand why such a big deal is being made about Love Jihad..its only reflects badly on Hindus girls that they seem to chase after guys who throw money.

I feel some girls naturally fall in love with guys of a different religion..not every Love is a Love Jihad.

Its the best excuse to cover up shame in a family by blaming Love Jihad..its like every wife using the excuse of Dowry Harassment when she fights with husband!

There are rules, laws and checks for IR marriages. 9 out of ten cases have elements of force, blackmail, compromising photos, and threats. Let the love couple follow the rules.

Love jihad is a cooked up story of RSS and its mouthpiece. The Meneka Gandhi the minister in-charge of such matters has categorically denied it, as no case was ever registered. It was a half baked idea of UP branch of BJP to win an election, public did not buy it and BJP lost the by-election. This mouthpiece has not been on Mr. Modi's e-mail updates. Mr. Modi or his inner circle never supported this deliberate planted lie.
