Akshaya thrithiyai

rajaramansethuraman,

no matter what, the modern akshaya, i feel, is a product of successful marketing by the gold industry.

we can wrap all this in any number of religious arguements. the fact remains, till a few years ago there was no akshaya.

Lakshmi devi still visited to our abodes, then as now. She did not need a gold sale, with door crasher teasers, and aishwaraya rai displaying the latest of jewellery design.

the modern akshaya, i think, is a reflection of the new wealth being generated in the country. i have no problem with it. only that it is yet another commercial vehicle for people to spend their money (hopefully nobody goes into debt due to the 'savings' offered during the akshaya season).

I have read before that Lakshmi is the deified aspect of the Rajo Guna in Prakriti..
Saraswati is the deified aspect of Sattva guna and Durga is the deified aspect of Tamo guna...and man has been trying to get a grip over of these 3 gunas in Prakriti by offering prayers .....so gold is just Auram..

spot on shri kunjuppu... i came to know about this ony through the commercial ads. our immediate family, relations, and both our paternal/maternal agraharam goshti do not recognize this...

I have read:
Akshaya Thrithiyai is a holy day which is based on humanitarian values and positive attitudes.
It is said that the Mother Goddess - Ambaal measured out food to every living thing in the universe as Annapuurani and Dharma Samvarddhini.
On one occasion, Siva plucked out the fifth head of Brahma; the head got stuck in Siva's hand. Siva attained the form of Bairava and took alms with the kapala. Annapuurani
gave him alms and removed the dhosha thus.
The great ones from ancient times have laid out that this day is meant for dhaana and dharmas.
Kshaya means decreasing. A+kshaya means without decrease. Growing, increasing.
If you perform dhaanas, then dharma will grow. Perform good deeds, then good fortune and punniyam increase. You can invest in anything good. You can buy anything. It brings good fortune and increased prosperity. There is a great movement of economy with all this buying and selling and donations.Learn and education will increase many fold.
But some vested interested parties have given a twist by spreading that this day is the day that everyone must buy gold.
They say that if you buy gold on this day, gold will increase in your homes throughout the year.In this way, only the jewellers and gold sellers will get rich.
Why not buy rice?
We have to eat rice everyday.
We dont eat gold.
One must read Seedhakaadhi Maraikayar's story and AnandaRangam Pillai's story to understand this.
And plentifulness in victuals is the true hallmark of increased properity.
Auvaiyar blessed a particular king thus - "Varappu uyara".
Varappu is the small bund that bounds the plots of rice fields. If it is raised, then it can hold more water. It also means that there is plentiful of water for irrigation. This would increase the growth of rice which will mean increased production of rice which would mean general prosperity all over.
Feed the poor; give them dress; bring happiness in a home this day. All in the name of God.

Most of the poojaries, gurukkals, and astrologers have been bull-shitting and hoodwinking the people for their own ends.
Many are instilling greed and undesirables into the minds of people in the name of religion.
Do good on Akshaya Thrithiyai.

Dear Friends,
One of my friends sent me the following .This is from a Sri Vaishnavite point of view about Akshaya Thrithiyai
Regards
*********************
Dear Aastika,
Akshaya Triteeyai is the third day of Sukla Paksham . It falls on May 16 ( 2nd Day of VaikAsi )this year . It is a day sacred for worship of Mahaa Vishnu . Punya karmas done on this sacred day multiply many fold . It is an ideal day for receiving upadEsams on Mahaa mantrams by sincere saadhakaas . It is a perfect day for making new beginnings to ensure undiminishing returns . Sambhavanai to one's Acharyan , who opened one's spiritual eye is highly recommended on this sacred day . It is an ideal day for performing Punya Karmas like Mantra Japam , dhaanam , Vishnu Sahasra Naama Paarayanam and the darsanam of Sriman Narayanan on Garuda Vaahanam . The 12 Garuda Sevai at KumbakOnam Big Street takes place on this day . Lord Sarangapani , Chakrapani , Raaman , Varaahan and other sacred archas from the city and suburbs of Kumbakonam can be seen on Garuda Vaahanam under a big pandal at Periya Theru of Thirukkudanthai ( Kumbakonam).
Akshaya means that which never diminishes . The Sula Paksha Triteeyai is considered to be the auspicious day , when Lord Krishna blessed the Paandavas with the Akshaya Paathram that was the source of undiminishing food . It is also considered as the day in which Veda Vyasar dictated Maha Bhaaratham to Lord Vigneswara . In Kerala and elsewhere , this day is recognized as the avatara dinam of the sixth avataram of Parasu Raamar ( Parasu Raama Jayanthi). In northern India , Kubhera Poojai is done for increase in their wealth . On this day , mercantile interests push the sale of precious metals and Jewellary . Gold's golden run takes place in India on this day and many rush "religiously " to purchase gold instead of a turning inward to Bhagavad Aaradhanam , Mantra Japam and Dhanams . Vidhya dhanam through support of Veda Paatasaala. Akshaya Trutheeyai is one of the best thing to do on this day . It is one of the most sacred Muhurthams of the Year . The other two days are Yugadhi and Vijaya Dasami .
On this Akshaya Triteeyai day , adiyen recommends the following priority activities :
1) Support of Your AchAryans during the upcoming Chathur Maasya Vratam ( July 25- Sep 22, 2010). There is nothing more important than supporting one's Acharyan and His Kaimakryams through this mode of annual support . Your samarpanams can be whatever you can afford .
2) Vishnu Sahasra Naama Paarayanam and recital of Sri Raghuveera Gadhyam and Garuda Dandakam .
3) Bhagavad Aaradhanam ( Laghu or dheergam)
4) Receiving Mantra Upadesam from a Sadaacharyan or a qualified upaasakar
5) Supporting Veda Paatasaalas , Colleges of Arts and Sciences established by the Acharyan .
6) Visiting Vishnu Temples near you and performing Pradakshinams with the recital of appropriate Stothrams ( Acharya Sri Sooktis) .
7) Not buying Gold and precious metals and deflecting those expenses towards an Acharya or a dhivya desa Kaimkaryam .

Namo Sri Nrisimhaya,
V.Sadagopan
Sri Sadagopan from Oppiliappan Kovil (( a well known Vaishnavaite scholar)

Correct Dr Sundaram sir,

Buying gold or property is not connected with Akshaya Thiruthiyai.

Offering gifts and dakshina to vedic scholars is the main purpose of the function.

All the best
