Very informative and exhaustive, Shri Srinikam.I think the author Shri. P.R. Ramchander has translated many slokas ond mantras into English and published in the web in many religious fora.

Modern life, society and people have raised a question whether the institution of marriage is alive. Kanyadhaanam, Panigrahanam, saptapadhi, etc are important functions other than the vratams and homams. These will be followed by a few who are neither here nor there, but still would allow them because they show these on tv. A few rituals today are irrelevant. Like Kaasi Yatra the girl's father appeases the groom to return as he would provide all paraphernalia for performing regular yagnas! Except a few 'quirks', there are not many grooms who can be trusted to do 'sandhyavandanam' daily. I think all the scholars and enlightened should streamline the system to make the function done within two shakes of a duck's arse so that the bride and the groom and the parents-in-law can run back to their pre-marriage positions!
