உங்களுக்கு சீனியர் இல்லங்களே பிடிக்காதோ? எங்கள் நண்பரும்,

அவர் மனைவியும் நண்பரின் நூறு வயது (!) அன்னையுடன்

கோவையில் ஒரு சீனியர் இல்லத்தில் இருக்கின்றார்கள். அவர்களின்

பிள்ளை நியூயார்க்கில்; பெண் ஹைதராபாதில்! எத்தனை சந்தோஷ

வாழ்க்கை நடத்துகின்றார்கள் தெரியுமா?

நியாயம் - அனாமிகா

நியாயம்******காலை நேரம். அலுவலகம் கிளம்பும் பரபரப்பில் இருந்தாள் நந்தினி. வாசலில் வேலைக்காரி முத்தம்மாவின் குரல் ஒலித்தது."வாம்மா, வா! நாலு நாள் லீவு போதுமா? இன்னும் நாலு நாள் பொறுத்து வர்றது தானே?"கோபத்தில் பொரிந்தாள் நந்தினி."இல்லம்மா; ரொம்ப அவசரம், அதான் சொல்லாம லீவு எடுத்துட்டேன். இருநூறு ரூவா அட்வான்ஸ் வேணும்மா; தங்கச்சிக்கு வந்து...""நிறுத்து, நிறுத்து! உன் கதையெல்லாம் கேட்க எனக்கு நேரமில்ல. இருக்கற வேலையை முடிச்சிட்டு போ; சாயங்காலம் வந்து பாரு, பணம் தர முடியுமான்னு யோசிச்சு சொல்றேன்."எரிந்து விழுந்துவிட்டு, நந்தினி அலுவலகம் கிளம்பிவிட்டாள்.அலுவலகம். தகவல் அனுப்பாமல், அனுமதி இன்றி ஒரு வார லீவுக்குப் பிறகு அன்று தான் வந்த கிளார்க் சுமதி மானேஜர் அறைக்குச் சென்றாள். வெளியே வரும்போது விழிகளில் நீர்ப்படலம்.நந்தினி சுமதியிடம் விசாரிக்க, "பாரு நந்தினி! குழந்தையைக் கூட்டிட்டு ஊருக்குப் போனோம். போன இடத்துல திடீர்னு ரொம்ப உடம்பு சரியில்லாம போயி ஆஸ்பிடல்ல சேர்க்க வேண்டியதாயிடுச்சு. எப்படியோ உயிர் பிழைச்சு நேத்து தான் டிஸ்சார்ஜ் பண்ணி இன்னிக்குக் காலையிலேதான் சென்னை வந்தோம். விவரத்தைக் கேட்கக் கூட பொறுமையில்லாம, லீவு போட்டதுக்காக மானேஜர் கண்டபடி பேசிட்டார். மத்தவங்க நிலைமையைப் புரிஞ்சுக்காம அப்படி என்ன மனுஷங்களோ?"நந்தினியின் மனத்தில் முத்தம்மாவின் முகம் தோன்றியது. மாலை அவள் கேட்ட பணத்தைக் கொடுத்துவிடத் தீர்மானித்தாள். *******************

Dear Raji Ma'am,AFAIK, our culture emphasizes on the role and due respect towards one's Parents right from the beginning as "மாதா பிதா குரு தெய்வம்" and not only the children are expected to take care of their Parents until they are alive and even after their demise there is a lot of ceremonies to be performed as the 'Amavasya Tharpanam' so that the next generation gets their blessings.If the children are settled abroad, the stigma for a stay in OAH is somewhat less. This is attributed to the fact that everyone knows older people cannot adjust to the extreme weather conditions and a new attitude and medical facility abroad is a lot expensive in foreign countries.yes; I am not for "OAH" where the elders are sent as last resort. Only for a lucky few with enough and more money, there is the option of choosing the 'BEST' of these homes where good care and facilities are available. Nowadays to get admission in a branded 'OAH' is next to college/nursery admissions; so costly and tough . Pls think of the other Parents who have toiled to raise the family, and not financially well-off ? Is it not their right to expect a peaceful old age with the support of their family? I feel, sons are guilty of not taking care of their Parents in their old age. Some might feel it is not to be expected and so on...but our Hindu dharma which boasts of Sravana's devotion to Parents should not be allowed to degrade the duties of Children and rights of Parents. Let us hope the exception of Senior homes remains an exception and not become the rule!ThanksAnamika

Dear Anamika,

What you say is true! But times are changing and so are people.

I have also written about the plight of parents now a days, in my thread.

But what can not be cured should be endured... Right?
