IAF lost 28 pilots in four years: Antony

losing 28 pilots in 4 years is awful. this too from an institution that is meant to keep its fleet top notch and readytokill.

i suspect most of those killed are mig pilots. interesting, the minister did not classify the kills by aircraft.

whatever it may be, hopefully this rate & numbers is higher than the u.s. which has several times more aircraft and also conducting two wars.

not acceptable.

Since my DAD was serving as officer in Indian Air Force and we were moving with him from state to state, we our self have seen couple of Mig's crashing on the ground and killing pilots.

The Government, as usual makes diplomatic and positive official statements that thorough checks and proper maintenance are carried out on each aircraft by qualified team of engineers and technicians and that no aircraft is offered for flying unless it passes all checks and is fully fit for flying.

Though the statements about maintenance and testing are correct, only Air Force personnel know as what sort of old and outdated versions of aircrafts are used, not only for training and transportation purposes, but for combat operations as well.

The figures have been fudged to make it look less awful. Looking at the accidents during the past 10 years or so would reveal the obvious. That the IAF has one of the worst records of all the AFs in the world. Then again, what else can one expect considering

1. For various reasons the IAF relies on 'flying coffins' (migs) to be its backbone.

2. Due to lack of proper training in trainer aircraft, pilots are pitchforked into flying migs when they are not ready to fly even reliable aircraft.

3. Most blame must fall on the politicians, but the IAF is not without blemish when it comes to kickbacks and ulterior motives in selecting equipment.

Of course, no politician has lost a relative in any of these accidents AFAIK. So it doesn't really matter. :mad2:

Pakistanis have better equipments from Americans,and yet they lost wars with India.F-16 which is the super-star,did nothing to help Pakistanis be it against Indians,Iranians,Afghanistanis,Taliban.So,its the people who use the equipment at times of need,that matters.Russians trade or sell 70% of its arsenal,to Indian armoury,and the Chinese used Russian Technology better,to beat the crap out of Indians in 1965.So,the Chinese made better use of Russian Technology.

I did not mention any year for Pakistani war,as we have had three in number with them.You are accurate about Kargil,and had it not been for Bill Clinton the President Of USA,Mushy would have become bushy in a rushy,by Indians.Pakistanis quietly packed nawaz sharief to their mother land,namely saudi arabia,which is existing as nation,owing to bandobast of americans largesse.its only becoz of americans true peaceful nature of diplomacy,islam is existing in middle east asia.of course the russians were soundly trashed by americans,especially when they invaded afghanistan.but i am confident americans will win in afghanistan and taliban & al-qaeda will be killed or never can they operate with immunity with pakistans help ever in future.

F-18 s what India shud get from americans plus sea carriers for navy.HAL is a joke and DRDO is bigger joke a huge waste of tax payers money for these white elephants and politicians to milk money from public,so that they can amass wealth and perpetuate dynastic rule.
