“It is a matter of regret that most states are doing nothing to discharge their responsibility in taking action against hoarders. It is only in the last 3-4 days, after the central government amounted pressure, that staggering quantities of 36,000 tonnes of dal have been recovered. Raids are still continuing,” he told reporters after the meeting.

All these "hoarders" will have very good political connections and this 50,000 tonnes statistics itself is likely to be cooked up, because prices have not come down even by one rupee!

State steps in, tur dal Rs152 per kg

Giving respite to consumers, prices of tur dal have come down to Rs 152 per kg from the earlier Rs 200 per kg after the state government intervened and raided godowns across Maharashtra. In the past five days, government seized over 46,000 metric tonnes of pulses illegally hoarded in state-wide godowns. However, the seized stock will not be immediately available for public consumption as per the law.

Taking cognisance of the public outcry against pulses’ rates, the Food and Civil Supplies Department conducted 2,492 raids between October 19 and October 23. “We have conducted 2,492 raids between October 19 and 23 and seized 46,397 metric tonnes of food grains of which 95 per cent are pulses. This has largely impacted the prices of pulses and tur dal has come down to Rs 152.50 per kg on Friday. There is a clear reduction of Rs 50 in tur dal prices due to raids," food and civil supplies secretary Deepak Kapoor told The Asian Age.

Govt, would not stop by making raids and seizure alone.

Severe action should be taken against the offender.

Govt, would not stop by making raids and seizure alone.

Severe action should be taken against the offender.

The Government may register cases against the offenders under the Essential Commodities Act 1955 and there are umteen number of Advocates to protect the interest of their clients. And this has been happening since 1955.

It is 75,000 Tonnes now.

75,000 tonnes of pulses seized from hoarders in raids across 13 states

Raids or no raids. Tur Dal is ruling supreme and unlike in the past there is not much of a protest. Becaise it is our dear government. The only difference between then and now is the last PM, MM, did not say anything and the present PM, NMJi is talking about everything every thing else under the Sun, showing versatility on nothing.

Yes. There is no protest at all. One think is clear that Tur Dal is consumed by middle class & upper class. Economically lower class did not bother much about the price as they do not consume Tur Dal.

Tur dal imported is available at Safal outlets in delhi at a price of 120/kg . This is imported dal and there are not many takers. It is pretty good for consumption. But

other dals such as moong and urad are of chilka type [with covering] which we do not take are also available a controlled price. I cannot comment as I did not buy them

I am afraid it is a big ploy to import items of shortage whenever people moan of shortage and make fast and huge bucks. Satyameva Jayate but at its sweet time when people are up with some other problems.

Now they, the present government, has fixed up the price at Rs.100 and the traders are happy and ModiJi is also happy. This is what Congress was also doing. Public are "weeping under their sleeves".

Krish Sir, I got Tur Dal from Safal..I thought it will hard looking at the size but once we soaked in warm water & cooked it, it was very tasty

Irrespective of the prevailing market prices , Tur Dal is being distributed in Tamil nadu ration shops as usual for the price of Rs. 30/ per K.g.

IF dal prices come down, some other commodity like tomato prices shoot up.Our traders have a friendly govt which looks the other way when shortages are created .

When there is a scramble to get rich quick , morality takes a back seat. This is the economy for speculators and making windfall profits. An idle thought why not take to

speculation? Do in rome as romans do . Stock market is alive and kicking and We have promises to keep.Plunge and emerge a millionaire. Why not?

Shri Krish sir,

Why are you so eager to recommend the share market at every opportunity? Is it because you are an agent for some big share market agent who usually pay a commission to their agents who bring in fresh "bakaras" who will ultimately be milked dry by the share market mafias?

Hahaha,
This is the only speculative activity which calls for minimum effort.
This is one I picked up when I was young and do it as it gives me maximum enjoyment like a cricket match or any other sport.
One does not need to go to any agent for investing in shares.
This can be done online like banking or any financial transaction.
If one has to live in an open economy , one cannot shy away from its instruments which makes possible higher returns.
The way banks function these days, the returns for savers are likely to reduce further.
Money may not retain its value in fixed return instruments like FDs and it would be more misery for senior citizen dependant on interest incomes.
There is no other convenient way out of this.
