A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and b...eautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.
They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no sex life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?! "

(The girl on the picture is French model Tara Lynn) Feel free to tag yourselves :)
Last comment: I'm not putting down thin people, just saying that being large doesn't equate to being unattractive.

Kunjs tomorrow I will start a thread "why men gain weight"
this is a start.

People gain wait. Why this gender. It is not gender specific. Women do worry a lot more about appearance than men.
If you see the TV programs :
Weight Loss Programs Seen on TV | eHow.com

The thead is about why women do like getting fatter. They still can be attractive being large in size..

And the most hilarious statement is -"We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies. We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated."

Men please do not make it more difficult for you to go home tonight. I know this site is not politically correct. But please leave this topic alone.

T............

Now that the reason is known, fat gentlemen can be happy too and
claim that they have more wisdom and knowledge than lean gentlemen! :clap2:

I do feel there is immense pressure on women especially in certain cultures like the west and the Far East to remain thin, slim and waifish. Before rubenesque women were adored as the yardstick of beauty. These days its the opposite mostly due to mass media influence.

Having said that, today obesity and child obesity in particular is rising rapidly in developed countries. That cannot be a good thing surely.

I like your comment.
Obesity is a challenge, and must not be taken lightly. It is not something to be made fun.

If not for any other reason, people should avoid obesity so that at least unlike the obese, they do not give trouble to others till the very end— to the pall-bearers.

At least men have a justification. From Shakespeare's Julius Caesar:

Let me have men about me that are fat;
Sleek-headed men, and such as sleep o' nights.
Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look;
He thinks too much: such men are dangerous.

I was just thinking as I walked into work..that thank god men don't gain weight in gravity challenged areas!!LOL

Hey Kunjs,

Thank you for starting this thread..forum was getting boring with all never ending recycled theories..thank god now we can let imagination run wild!!

On a recent trip to India, a couple of my relatives told me that me that I was looking much better this time. I interpreted this to mean that I was a little fatter. (Don't know if it was in a gravity challenged area or not, but I was sitting down).

I think generally Indians still favor the well-rounded look, instead of the famished look ala Poonam Pandey.

I agree Indians and especially, especially SI tend to still find the chubby, rubenesque women attractive, figure-wise. If we are slim they think our parents are starving us or we are not eating properly. Many also haven't heard of the concept of "exercise". Indians all over the world are prone to Diabetes.

Also its very interesting that one tends to look a bit plump in a jeans, trouser and western clothing in general but the sari slims you down a lot. So people who practically live in saris can't/don't realise how much weight they gain cos it makes them look slimmer!

Incidentally very fat men have "Moobs" :). Perhaps they should start a special lingerie section for men with moobs :D

My son's friend came here for tea, with his two kids aged 4 and 2. The older one was refused chocolates, ice-cream,

cream biscuits and even bananas. Poor kid! He liked whatever he was not supposed to eat, very much. The younger

one went on eating all the stuff to his heart's content, whereas, his brother sat down with two marie biscuits and a few

pieces of an apple given to him! There is a saying in Tamil, 'iLamaiyil kodiyathu varumai', but we can now add this:

'iLamaiyil kodiyathu dieting!'

:hungry: ... :nono:

I think that the basic body figure runs through the genes. I have seen lots of Ilander people to be big and huge by their genetical nature and also aboriginals. It does not mean that they eat a lot!

Women do have more things going on in their bodies like - mensuration, becoming pregnant, uterus and the belly muscles getting stretched and if it is a ceaseran delivery one is not allowed to do any exercises till 3 months (atleast in India!), menopause, gaining weight, taking steroids etc etc. I agree that overeating and excessive weight gain is not good for one's health but what about basically round figured women?

It all boils down to that - basically round figured, healthy women! Due to modern ads, beauty contests - Miss India, Miss World, Miss Universe etc even healthy weight, round women are looked down!

Any mother out there who has stretched belly and uterus because of having kids - be proud of yourself! It certainly reminds you of bringing beautiful children to this world! To those mothers who were lucky enough to have their tummy back to normal shape after delivery - good on you but please be considerate to other women who were not lucky enough like you!

Last but not least - all girls and women out there, be proud of who you are in your own body. We are all of different shapes and sizes and that's what makes the world more interesting! How boring it would be if we are all of the same size, shape and colour!!! (It applies to men too!)

And finally I would say - give me someone who has mass to hug! (Oh, it's terrible to hug someone when their bones stick out on you!) :)

Cheers!

worth while remembering quote here. :)

the western clothes accentuate the curves. they are more form fitting than either the sari or the salwar kameeze, where it is usually one size fits all, except xxxL. :)

nothing so awful, that to wear western clothes which are sizes smaller than appropriate, and have the flubs hanging out on the sides and elsewhere. ... and wearing oversized clothes also does not look good. i guess the west, atleast the modern concept of the western woman, with its adherence to waif like figures, is unrealistically hard on the women. i sympathize.

the sari is perhaps socialism idealized - one can be of any size, and still just as elegant as the other. even salwar cannot match this.

jai sari!!

raji,

'dieting' esp for kids, i think, is an extreme reaction. retro reaction to a crisis, deliberately or carelessly developed over a period of time.

how many of us have been brought up on the poem, 'chuuby cheeks dimple chin' as our ideals in babies. we germinate the fat genes into the youngsters, and continue to feed them till they are stuffed. right into teen years. and harvest fat teenagers.

my own attitude to eating, especially by children, is - that hunger is a basic need. if the child is hungry, it is going to grab the food and gobble it.

i hate to say this, but how many of us, have seen tambram mothers, with food in a plate, running after the kid, begging it eat and along with it, all the distraction of the moon or the tv show? is there any need for it. i am yet to see a western mom get so paranoid about eating habits of her children.

unfortunately, with increasing urbanization, more prepared food, with its toxic mix of calories and chemicals, and the widespread availability of cheap chocolates and sweets, the world is bursting into obesity with the current crop of youngsters. .. and then we overreact, and go to diet. which is agony. eat again. gain weight. and thus establish a wax wane cycle of fat.

i think how much wiser we would all be, if we right from the outset, watch the food habits of our children, and maintain their weight within an ideal range.

what burns me up most, is slim good looking parents accompanied by fat kids. such carelessness and abandonment of parental care and duty!!!
