Why are we here

When I logged on to the forum, I was rather shocked to find a thread entitled "Liability warning" which talked about dragging the forum, its owner and may be also a few members into a Court of Law for libel.

While the threat or warning be as it may, whether enforceable or not, it is somewhat disquieting that the disagreements between members' posts should reach such a disagreeable level.

My humble request to all the members would be while logging on the site, we just remember why we are here, then all the problems will become non-existent. Our intention is just exchange of ideas - not to thrust our opinion down the other peoples' throat, not to prove we are too clever in our arguments, not to show to the other members we are Bruhaspathi. So please think about the option of disengaging from discussions when meeting point becomes unlikely.

To the best of my knowledge, the owner/moderator seldom enters into any discussion (except to close threads or act as a behind the scene arbitrator between the warring parties) and it would be a great dis-service to drag him or the forum into law suits, just because some member or another did not find a way out of extricating from discussions which were turning sour.

I think it is appropriate to think and thank all those who provide us with service, particularly those that does not cost us directly.
Like the mailman, the internet provider, the world wide web, the wiki, this site, and others.
The free information flow has added to our knowledge base and provided us with a forum to express our views.

I think self control is the best control...Let us resolve to maintain discipline in our postings...There should not be any disparaging, defamatory comments by anyone...This forum is for the community..Let us maintain the highest ethical standards in our posts...I beseech each one of us to take this pledge to uphold the honor & prestige of this forum..JaiHind

Thanks for the input in this thread. I agree that the owner/moderator of
the forum must not be dragged into litigation for the views expressed by
the members.

From the posts here, it is clear that all the members are well-read and
well-informed. We must not reduce ourselves and exchange unpleasant
remarks about anyone or about some sensitive topic.

We express what we know of any subject/discipline and also the happenings
around us which we consider will influence our lives and/or which we
consider our friends should know. Perhaps they may know better than us.

It is not correct to assume that all our friends must agree with what we
say. They may differ, they may have better knowledge of the subject or
we may be totally or partially wrong. The friends can express their views
and refute what we say with proper reasoning and logic. We must
stop at it and must not use foul language or show one upmanship.
We are sufficiently mature enough to stop the tirade at appropriate
time.

Thanks all the friends for good thoughts.

We also have to remember that sometimes small time "fights" are also "essential" to spice up life.
It's like an "item number masala scene" after many posts in forum.

We might be mature and polite online but many a times I am sure some of us have felt uneasy with some post and might not have expressed it in words in forum but could have thought of choicest of words in our mind or even showed some unflattering gesture to the lap top.

How does anyone really know what each and everyone of us thinks?
No one knows isn't it?

So just relax and have fun within limits in forum.
Life is too short to be taking everything too seriously.

So Live and Let Live and Fight Fair and Square.

There is nothing more challenging than a worthy opponent!

Dear Doc Renu

Ref your our post # 7

I thought you'd take-off on 'Purpose of Creation' , in the thread " Why We are Here " !

Wait. Just wait, the camel must have reached the desert by now. You'll have more than
' a worthy opponent ', freshly watered, fed and molly-coddled in the oasis.

Yay Yem

I was thinking of camel only when I wrote that post.
Camel and I can fight like Tom and Jerry(as you had described us once) and still be friendly at times!!LOL

Just would like to highlight one thing more.
Each day is a new chapter for us here.
We might have "fought" yesterday but that does not mean we should be "enemies" forever.
I just hope we can all live and let live to a certain extent.

I too have No. of 'BEST ENIMIES'..in various websites... As you said a 'quarrel a day'..realy keeps the sprits up....But one constrain is people should understand that everything is for fun and must have the attitude 'fight & forget'and with my experience...I found No. of such people are less..

Most interesting aspect of this forum is such small "cat fights" in writing. After 2/3 months when you start reading some of the old threads you will enjoy the same much more. Still there are certain threads which are very interesting and there are many contributions from members in a large scale. So, let us enjoy the articles even at times it end in "fights".

You are right. Pulling each-other's leg, taking pot-shots at each-other, with a GURU,
suddenly materializing from thin air (!) and one sometimes getting lost - not knowing the
difference between North & South - all adds to the fun.

That's why I welcomed some new comers like this:

Hi Everybody.

I am sort of fed-with a "Formal Welcome".

This forum is not just about a group of people sitting with their Pancha Patram
& Udhranis and discussing about Vedas, Maya and Geetha all the time.
We can also handle subjects ranging from Investment Banking to Space Technology.

Oh! This is not just about Tamarind Rice + Poppadams / Curd Rice + Mango Pickle.
We can also handle Pizzas and Garlic Bread too with Black Coffee and Diet Pepsi.

Sorry if you thought this was solely about Carnatic Music & Bharatanatyam.
We can handle Jazz & Rap and Bhangra too.

So, welcome on board - look forward to your active participation and valuable contributions.

WELCOME, SWAGATHAM, VANAKKAM.

Yay Yem

PS: Maybe I should've also added " We can drive fast cars, pump the Iron and make animal
sounds while sparring" !

Hi All,

The thread "au revoir" was closed before I could post my views on the subject. What is the remedy available to me?

Regards

Typed it here...so we can all read it!!

Actually this is in response to the postings in "au revoir" thread, but since that thread has been closed, I am using this route. Here goes my thoughts:

Amidst the ignorant nurse, incompetent doctor, inefficient engineer and inept moderator, this forum was lucky to have a shining light (or soorya roshani) who could hold the forte in various fields. Just to recapitulate a few areas :

1. samskruta vyAkaraNa pAnditva - a la pANini - differentiating between griham (house) and graha (planet) - totally ignoring the fact that "R" is a vowel (or semi vowel in sanskrit) and in transliteration scheme, it has to be approximated to a, i or u.

2. Complete reconciliation guide to "theism" and "science" via agnostic mode and by finding answers to such questions as "is God vegetarian or non-vegetarian" one can cut the guardian knot.

3. Mastery over law and legal jurisprudence especially with reference to libel cases, and hold your breath, the mastery having been picked up while doing MBA !!! which is of course in addition to the speciality in science.

4. Complete control and mastery over carnatic music or classical music.

5. Encyclopaedic knowledge of nobel prizes awarded and denied especially to Indians, with the break up of personalities of British colonial India and independent India.

6. Ability to analyse and dismiss the knowledge or lack of it, contained in vedas by having just a glance at nAsadiya suktam available on line. Never mind that even after about 150 years indologists have not arrived at such a conclusion.

7. Online and moving reference manual on the latest god particle - more especially why Indians should not crib more and their contribution having been adequately recognised by naming the particle Higgs Boson.

8. Critic of Bhakthi sangeet, who by just hearing the first stanza of Venkatesa suprabhatam can make out that the stanza does not address Lord Venkateshwara, but it addresses the boy next door named Rama.

9. Thorough and easily transmissible knowledge of chemistry (through forum chats/list servers), including its chemical formulae, greek/latin names, with specialisation in ethanol, menthol, alcohol, alcohol swabs, edible and inedible varieties, their uses and abuses etc.

These are the areas of specialisation that comes off my head without effort and I am sure I have missed many more gems.

It is rather unfortunate that the combo of ignorant, incompetent, inefficient and inept parties have formed the caucus of andha-tamas and have successfully prevented the sun from shining.

Dear Zebra Ji

Ref your post # 19 Yep, I agree. Just that some people reach the extreme limits of their
limited intellectual capacity, very soon.

Then on, it's only " What I don't know, is not worth knowing " .

If you want to make sure that your post will be read widely
just post it in the thread Think it over. :welcome:
I do hope you will think it over now! :)

Dear All,

Contributors to this thread are from different part of the country - but most of us are Tam Brahmins. We have not seen each other - most of the members I suppose - but still we are now very familiar with many names along with the place in which they live. We could make a fair guess of what sort of persons they are - their likes , dislikes, when they will argue / fight / pull other's legs / keep quiet(rarely). So, all of us make it a regular practice to share our views through this forum atleast once in a week (if not daily !!)
