Can you introduce yourself without reference to your past?
We generally introduce our self with Birth,name, education, Carrier, achievements, or family. Everything is referring to an event in the past.

If we believe in soul, at least we can say AHAM BRAHMASMI.

Must be factual.

So we have future.

We can introduce ourselves with reference to our future- if we have planed it already...
as a future doctor, future lawyer, future auditor.
Budding doctor / lawyer/ auditor sound so cool!
However introducing oneself as a future P.M. or M.P. will be difficult- since many factors lie outside our control.
success? :decision: failure?

You remind me of Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi . He always insisted on self-
enquiry - who am I ? As you go on questioning ( vichar ) and deeper and deeper,
you will get the answer. And you can guess what it is .

Ramana maharishi's question was "Who am I?"

Here the question is "Who are you?"

The first one will lead to Atma vichaar.

The second one may to lead to a fist fight:boxing:

- if not spoken in the proper tone.

I am sure there is a lot of difference between these

two queries!

The two are not different from the standpoint of the addressee. He has to
reply who am I ?

It is here Atma vichar comes.

Please see Adi sankara's nirvana shadkam. I am not body etc and finally
ending with I am brahman - sivoham. Do you want me madam to write the
full one? Please think it over. Thanks

Post#6 Mr. Rangnathan,
Your understanding of my post is very similar to mine. Thanks for the clarifications.

[h=1]#46. காயமும், வெங்காயமும்![/h]

ஒன்றாய் மறைந்து நிற்கும் நம் ஆத்மா;
இரண்டாய் இருக்கும் அறிவும், மனதும்;
மூன்றாய் இருக்கும் நமது சரீரங்கள்;

ஐந்தாய் இருக்கும் பஞ்ச பிராணன்கள்;
ஆறு ஆக இருக்கும் அறிவுத் திறன்கள்;
ஏழு ஆக இருக்கும் சப்த தாதுக்கள்;

பத்து ஆக இருக்கும் இந்த்ரியங்கள்;

இவற்றை ஒன்று ஒன்றாக விலக்கினால்;

ஆத்மாவை நன்றாக உணர்ந்திடுவோம்;

AN ONION AND THE HUMAN BODY.

An onion seems to hold a sacred secret in its layers. But as we remove the layers one after another, we look foolish when there is nothing hidden in the womb of the onion.

The onion resembles the human body in many respects.

There is an Atman in a human body; there are two faculties which act ceaselessly called the Mind and the Intellect.

There are three sareerams viz the Sthoola sareeram, the Sookshma sareeram and the Kaarana sareeram.

There are five Pranaasa; six senses and seven dhaathus in a human body. There ten Indriyaasa – five gnaana indriyaas and five karma Indriyaas.

When we discard them one by one saying ,”Not this! Not this!” we discover the formless Atman hidden inside the body very much similar to the secret hidden within an onion.

The Body, Mind, Intellect and Emotions in a human body consists of both Chetana and Achetana. If we can separate the Sat from the Asat just a swan separates milk from water, we can cling to the Sat and neglect the Asat.

Ms. Ramani,
You are very learned person and admire your knowledge.
your post#10 baffles me.
There is nothing in Onion, where as there is soul in the body. So they are not the same, did I understand it right.

Can any god/ deity/ deva or whatever be introduced without reference to their respective past and with just the mere description that "xyz god is parabrahmam" and nothing more? What will the "believers" then do without any of the sahasranamams, "laharis", dandakams, slokams and so on?

Madam's poem is right. If you remove all the sheaths like annamaya kosa etc
one by one , as described in Taittirya upanishad, you will find your self. In tamil
they call it vettaveli.

Thahramvipaapam parameswara bhootham..... , are the upanishadic words.
In the hyrudayakasa, Atman is there , formless.

dear Mr. Prasad1,

The formless, invisible thing which defies all our

sense organs is the Atman - as true as the "secret"

hidden in the onion-consisting of several layers.

I can give you a more recent example which you may

understand better. If you have watched the animated

movie "Kung fu Panda" you will remember the highly

guarded secret was a "Nothing"! :shocked:

It is that Nothing which is every thing but is as

elusive as anything can ever be!
:dizzy:

[h=1]#56. ஆகாசமும், ஆத்மாவும்.[/h] ஆகாசம் பரவியுள்ளது அண்டங்களிலெல்லாம்!

ஆகாசமும், ஆத்மாவும் ஒப்பானவை;

எங்கும் நிறைந்தவை இவை இரண்டுமே;

என்றும் அழியாதவை இவை இரண்டுமே;

நிர்மலமானவை இவை இரண்டுமே;
நிறங்கள் இல்லாதவை இவை இரண்டுமே;

எதிலும் ஒட்டாதவை இவை இரண்டுமே;

நுண்ணியவை இவை இரண்டுமே;

ஆகாசம் இன்றி அண்டங்களே இல்லை;

Akasham and Atman.

Akasham or vacant space exists throughout the Universe.

Atman exists throughout the creations.

Even inside a human body Akasham exists.

The one inside the head is called Chitaakaasham.

Akasaham and Atman are so similar in their

properties that we will be wonder struck when we

just compare them.

Both Akasham and Atman prevail everywhere.

Both of them are immutable and imperishable.

Neither of them can be destroyed.

Neither of them can be transformed.

Both of them are in their pure subtle forms.

Both of them are completely colorless.

Both of them can not cling on to anything else.

Nothing else can cling on to them either.

Both of them pervade inside and outside every object.

Both of them are so minute that they defy perception

through any sense organs.

Neither of them can be seen, heard, smelled, tasted

or felt.

Neither of them can be known by any regular

methods of knowledge.

Without space, there is no Universe.

Without Atman, there is no creation.

[h=1]#55. நான்கு நிலைகள்![/h]

நினைத்த நொடியில் உருவாகிடுவர்;
நினைத்த படியே பேசிப் பழகுவர்;

கிறங்குகின்றோம் நாம் வாழ் நாளெல்லாம்;

THE FOUR STATES OF ATMAN.

Man spends his entire life in one of these three states of consciousness viz, Jagratha Avastha, Swapna Avastha and Sushupthi Avastha.

Sleep is similar to death in many respects. When we sleep we wind up and reside in our Atman. We lose contact with the external physical world of our existence. We stop relating with Time, Place and the Objects in the ‘real world’ where we live!

When we enter the world of dreams, we become Gods. We can create anything and everything we wish to. Think of the sky and the blue sky appears. Think of a forest and immediately a thick green forest appears.

The Sun, The Moon, The stars and everything else besides, is at our beck and call. Any location, any time or day, any object or man, any animal or bird can be created – just by thinking about it.

They appear in a fraction of a second and disappear in another fraction of the second when they are not needed anymore. They talk, walk and behave exactly as we wish them to do.

We with out limited power, limited knowledge and limited experience are able to create a world of our own – as if by Magic.

The moment we come out of the dream, the entire creation vanishes! The dream which appeared to satyam when we were asleep turns out to be a mithya when we come out of it.

So when we transcendent the swapna lokam, it becomes a mithya.

What will happen if we are able to transcendent the physical world of existence?

If we are able to transcendent the physical world and reach the higher state of consciousness, this world will disappear just as our dream world did.

The world we live in is the creation of God – created using His unlimited Knowledge, Power and experience.

The dream world was our creation. The physical world is his creation. When we learn to transcendent the physical world, everything will vanish and only the Absolute Reality will be seen everywhere.

There won’t be any difference due to Naama roopa bedham. This is the fourth state of consciousness of Atman, called the Thureeyam.

If we reach this state of consciousness, we will be liberated from all bond ages, all misunderstandings, all delusions and all confusion. There will be Perfect Peace, Perfect Bliss and Perfect Knowledge.

post 14 . like chidambara rahasyam ! just akasa and no vigraha or linga.

Post 15 . the usual example of kudakasa and mahakasa in vedanta. The akasa
in the pot is not different from the maha akasa. Once the pot breaks, there are no
two akasas. Jnanis merge with Brahman after the prarabda is exhausted and
the body drops called videha mukthi

Sometimes even for the 'expert' the things might be too much to comprehend. They should leave it alone. It is not shame to admit sometimes to be humble. It si not an insult, just a statement of fact.
