God knows we need converts. it still hurts when see names llike a.r. rahman has his roots and talent base founded on hinduism.

hopefully our more ardent TBs would have no objections and do not insult these when they visit our temples. like they did, when vayalar ravi took his christian wife to guruvayoor.

Kunjuppu(quote) "do not insult these when they visit our temples. like they did, when vayalar ravi took his christian wife to guruvayoor."

It is very bad--to be condemned in strongest possible way.We visited recently a very large Roman Catholic Cathedral in Washingdon .D.C.The Preist in charge of receiving the "Guest visitors" was very happy to see us--he asked "are you from India"?--I asked him "how do you know"?-he said "the elder lady(mrs.Somayaji) is wearing "Saari"--"I had been to Iindia"--Hindus are peace-loving people" he said.We all were a little proud--He asked us to wait till the "Mass" is over,to take us,as nearly as permissible to the Altar. He said he would have taken us still further-because of tight security due to an anticipated visit of President.Mr..Obama and his family on July 4 th (Independense day) long week-end Mass--he ws apologetic that he could NOT take us further.I think the President went to Hawii or some other less cowded place.

Kunjuppu ji,

I think Kerala temples practice discriminating other religious people from entering Hindu temples. Probably Sabarimala is the only exception but here also ladies of a particular age group are discriminated.

In Tamilnadu, there is no discrimination of people entering temples. Certain temples have the board, `only Hindus permitted beyond this limit'. But here also foreigners if they prove that they have converted to Hinduism, they are permitted. One of our own member `Easternmind' narrated his experience at Madurai Meenakshi temple which is available in our forum threads.

To the best of my knowledge, KC Abraham, Ex Governor of Andhra Pradesh was admitted to Tirumala temple at Andhra Pradesh after he expressed his faith in the Hindu God. Sonia Gandhi has visited Tirumala temple inspite of her Christian origin.

All the best

In Kerala even the famous singer KJ Jesudas was not allowd toenter Guruvayoor temple. Ironically his song (Harivarasanam) is sang to Lord Ayyappa to let lord sleep everyday. Devotional songs by Jesudas on Krishna, Ayyappa and other deities are allowed inside temples. In house of brahmin who do not allow other caste people inside their house jesudas and other non hindu singers enter and make noise daily.

Dear kr subramanian,

One small correction: the sloka "harivaraasanam..." (not a song) is a traditional prayer yo Ayyappa, which was tuned (by whom?) and sung by KJY. This sloka is not recited as part of the pooja rituals but the song is played through the loudspeakers just to signify the closing of the sanctum for the day.

Thaindian news dt.Fri.january,2009 has published this message:-

"The late prime minister Indira Gandhi — born a Hindu — was not allowed to enter the temple even when she was in power, as she had married a Parsi."--Soamayaji.S.Mrs gandhi was a Kashmiri Brahmin(Kaul)
