Waist String?

Namaste all,

A friend of mine at my temple showed me a waist string that he said seperates the Hindus from the Muslims. I had never seen, or even heard of such a thing. What is this called? Where can I obtain one? Is this something only done in certain parts of India, or nationwide?

I found it quite interesting. Not in spite of Muslims, but just of Hindu identity. I can't get the yajnapavitam, so this would be something to identify myself as a Hindu. Although, I do wear moli on the right wrist.

Thanks,

Justin

Waist String

Are you referring to Aranakairu. Generally tied around waist for a Hindu Male child ? It can be bought anywhere like Maharashtra or tamilnadu.

Namaste vadekkemadam,

No, I don't believe that's it. My friend is an adult and he mentioned it makes a distinction between us Hindus and the Muslims. I'm assuming it's not a very popular item. I'll just go ahead and ask him when I see him again. When we were discussing it last time, the puja was about to begin and we didn't have much time to elaborate. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Regards,

Justin
