Upanayam- a confusion

We have approached 'purohit' [ Vadyar] for fixing good day for a Barani star boy during June, 2014, was given 2nd june or 8 th june suitable for Upanayanam. But some elders in the family remarked that 'as Shartham' of mother on 11 th june and brother on 21 june.. a gap of 10 days either side of function is a 'must'!! Is there such 'religious' compulsions?? Please guide us in this matter...

pithrus must be given first preference. only after sraatham you must select a good day for upanayanam.

Thank you for a reply..But my confusion was not yet cleared..the confusion was whether time gap of 'ten days' is 'religious' compulsion/or vedic formolities set by Rishis!! Pithrus will always get preference as Sraatham cannot be changed...Please advise...
