Tulabharam is done at Tirupati, Guruvayur, Udipi, Dwaraka and several temples in India. We have references to this ritual in Mahabharata, Puranas, Sangam Tamil literature, Silappadikaram and Periya Puranam. New evidence from Sumerian excavations show that they also offered this service to their Gods and Goddesses. Please go to my blog posting for full article.
