Traditions and Rituals after a first menstruation

Hi all,

I would some guidance from the seniors on tis forum.

My niece (my brother' side) just got her 1st menstruation. There are lots of diverging information coming from the Gurukals from what we should do or not do as a family.

Eg - some says that the brothers and their families are not allowed to attend prayers at the temple nor pray at home (light the daily lamps at the home altar for40days other saying 9 days and yet others 21days) - not sure for the basis for it.

My niece has been given a ceremonial bath on the 9thday now. What else should done?

Any other does and don'ts for my niece the close relatives?

Else if you can guide me from which literature I can find some correct answers. Many thanks
