Carnatic Vocal, carnatic music, classical vocal, classical music, indian classical music..

Carnatic music is a system of music commonly associated with the southern part of the Indian subcontinent, with its area roughly confined to four modern states of India: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. It is one of two main sub genres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu traditions; the other sub genre being Hindustani music, which emerged as a distinct form because of Persian and Islamic influences in North India. The main emphasis in Carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in gāyaki (singing) style.

I requested one of my forum friends to start this thread, to post all the nice carnatic and cine songs.

But, now EACH song appears in a new thread and almost all the threads have nil replies!!

I am looking for tamil traditional song titled CAVERI MAHATMAYAM. It is also known as TULA CAVERI MAHATMAYAM.
The song is in priase of River Caveri. I have heard it being song in Brahmin villages by elderly ladies in the month of Tulam, but I have no lyrics or recordings of this. If anyone of the members can upload the song, lyrics I shall be grateful. I have looked for it in GIRI TRADING, but with no result.

I have not heard a song (in Tamil) called Cauery Mahatmyam or Tula Kavery Mahatmyam.

Here is a link to Sanskrit prayer for Kavery

This link http://sanskritdocuments.org/doc_devii/kAverIstuti.pdf gives more details (with commentary)

Sri PR Kannan has written a summary in a small nook titled Tula Cauvery Mahatmyam. In chapter 8
of that book (page 30), he has given the 4 slokas (as in the sanskrit prayer) - I am pasting it below:

Shri Velukkudi has given discourses on Cauvery Mahatmyam - which you can search easily

Hope these are useful to you

The duo is the same who participated in carnatic music idol competition some years back ?

I am not sure as I do not have access (and hence have not watched) to carnatic music idol compeitions. This is what I read from the web http://default-environment-xjmafeieep.elasticbeanstalk.com/artist.php?id=648

Here is Anahita and Apoorva Ravindran (Anaita may be a finalist of carnatic music idol competition in 2011)
