Yes, thought controlling computing is the future wave...

Even today, people suffering from a motor-neuron disease called ALS (aka Lou Gahrig's Disease) can use a form of computing to type their thoughts into a computer by just focussing on a particular key! These people have active ocular (eys) muscles, but lost the use of most other muscles in the body... because they lost the specialized neurons called upper motor neurons in the cortex and the lower motor neurons in the brain stem and spinal cord.

The research I want to see is this:

The computing people should understand the retina and the visual cortex fully so much so they can get the signal from the visual cortex and project what it sees in a screen.. For example, I see a video on a TV screen, my retina gets the signal, which will be transmitted to the back of my brain to the visual cortex... if the computing technology is sophisticated enough, the same signal should be collected by electrodes and converted to images reprojected on a screen.

If the images that I see from the TV is the images projected by the computer from the signals of my visual cortex on the screen are one and the same (in high definition), then we have understood the signal pathway fully.

This will have immense practical value to manipulate the visual cortex for the betterment of the Society!

I was thinking specifically about this implication:

If the brain can be made to communicate with the computer so the brain waves can be digitally read, then it should be possible to read a person's thoughts. And if this communication could eventually be made duplex, then the person can be brainwashed! If this technology matures into use of tiny wireless devises like those we see in a TV serial such as '24' or 'White Collar', many practising people will have a field day, the Hindu astrologers among them!

The mind (brain in your parlance) can not only be controlled, but nourished, so autistic children could reap the benefits. Scientific studies into the spirituality of a person could become more and more credible, uniform and authentic. Eventually the entire human nervous system can be brought under control, and that, coupled with the researches in DNA for tissue replacement, could rejuvenate a person. And then there will be the inevitable wrong uses of the technology...

Yes.. yes.. all this is quite possible by Science, Engineering & Technology.

We have PET, CAT scans to see the human body non-intrusively in real time.. likewise the research will move into learning and knowing the "thought process of human brain" etc and powerful softwares will come along to manipulate our thought process itself... and read the old hidden memories of the past (childhood, boyhood etc).

Yes.. abuses also quite possible. Among us there are villains ready to create victims daily.

We are in constant motion at a warping speed of about 60,000 miles per hour around the Sun, and on our own axis we rotate at a speed of about 1000 miles an hour. And there are billion astral bodies in the sky.

How in the world an astute Astrologer can predict the future of this human being just by knowing the date and time of physical birth of a baby?

Impossible..humanly impossible. Neither any Super Computer can do the trick!

I think some time ago there was a similar discussion about converting thought waves into visual digital images.
I think it was some thread you had started and I was talking about the Visual Pathway.

I dont know which thread it was or am I having a Deja vu?

Are we sure that what the retina gets is a screen image of what is considered to be "seen"?

I am asking this because I was told by an ENT specialist that what is heard by the human ears may be decipherable till it reaches the inner ear but we still do not know in what form and way it is transmitted to the brain and exactly how the brain deciphers the input.
