தமிழகத்தில் கொரோனா மருந்து கண்டுபிடிப்பு முயற்சியில் முதல்கட்ட முன்னேற்றம்.

சென்னை: கொரோனா தடுப்பு மருந்து கண்டு பிடிப்பதில் முதல் கட்டமாக வெற்றி பெற்றிருக்கிறோம் என்று எம்ஜிஆர் மருத்துவ பல்கலைக்கழகம் அறிவித்து உள்ளது.

200க்கும் மேற்பட்ட நாடுகளை அலற வைத்திருக்கும் கொரோனா வைரசுக்கான தடுப்பூசிகளோ, மருந்துகளோ இதுவரை இல்லை. அதற்கான ஆராய்ச்சிகள் முழு வேகத்தில் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன.

இந் நிலையில் அமெரிக்காவின் தடுப்பு மருந்து நிறுவனத்தோடு இணைந்து ஆய்வுகளை மேற்கொள்ள இருப்பதாகவும், தடுப்பு மருந்து கண்டுபிடிப்பு அடுத்த கட்டத்திற்கு செல்லும்பட்சத்தில், தடுப்பூசி மூலம் கொரோனாவை கட்டுப்படுத்தலாம் என்றும் எம்ஜிஆர் மருத்துவப் பல்கலைக்கழக துணைவேந்தர் சுதா சேஷய்யன் அறிவித்துள்ளார்.

கொரோனா வைரசை தடுக்கும் புரதமானது, ரிவர்ஸ் வேக்ஸினாலஜி என்ற முறையில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது என்றும் அவர் மேலும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

கொரோனாவுக்கு தடுப்பு மருந்து கண்டுபிடிக்க உலகமே முயன்று வருகிறது.

அதற்காக ஆயிரக்கணக்கான டாலர்களை உலக நாடுகள் செலவழித்து வருகின்றன.

Let them find the cure and get the credit. Why American help? They can use Japan or Israeli help. America should beg us for the medicine. I don't care if we export them but only after meeting our requirements. At least one shift medicine production shall be reserved for India. Hope MGR University has not made hasty claim to success.

Yes, there is a worldwide race to develop the vaccine. But a google search says that MGR Institute is not the only one testing and producing this vaccine. I am just quoting a few that I found.

Progress is being made toward a viable vaccine for the coronavirus, say researchers at a Philadelphia-based pharmaceutical company.

Inovio Pharmaceuticals along with the University of Pennsylvania’s research facility and the Wistar Institute, had been working on the vaccine as early as this past January. Originally reported by Fox News, the vaccine was fast-tracked into development after the Chinese government made the genome sequencing of COVID-19 public.

Nearly three months later, a crucial first phase of testing has begun. Researchers with Inovio say that they were able to design their vaccine in just three hours after receiving a sequence for the virus.

NIH-funded trial of Moderna mRNA vaccine is first of any for COVID-19

On March 16, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) gave the first-ever injection of an investigational vaccine for the 2019 novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, to 4 volunteers participating in a phase 1 federally sponsored clinical trial.

As of March 16, no other trial had been launched in people of any vaccine for this virus, which causes COVID-19. The trial at KPWHRI’s Seattle-based Vaccine Treatment and Evaluation Unit (VTEU) began recruiting participants on March 3. “We are proud that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) selected us to conduct this innovative trial,” said Lisa Jackson, MD, MPH, senior investigator at KPWHRI. “We’re well prepared and focused on helping to address this evolving health situation.” Dr. Jackson is the lead researcher for the study, funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

A coronavirus vaccine candidate will be tested in a clinical trial in the United Kingdom starting this week. The vaccine combines a weakened version of a common cold virus with genes coding for the coronavirus' lethal weapons: its spikes.

The vaccine will be administered to people starting on Thursday (April 22), British Health Minister Matt Hancock announced today (April 21), according to CNBC. The study will recruit up to 510 healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 55 across multiple locations in the U.K., according to a statement.

China has approved early-stage human tests for two experimental coronavirus vaccines as it battles to contain imported cases and prevent a second wave of COVID-19.
