Swathi murder case: Ramkumar commits suicide in prison says police

CHENNAI: P Ramkumar, the accused in the murder of Infosys techie Swathi, allegedly committed suicide in the Puzhal prison on Sunday, police sources said. He has been rushed to the Royapettah government hospital. But police said he died on the spot.
Police sources said that he bit the live wire when being taken to the hospital complex in the prison at around 5.15 pm on Sunday. He is said to have succumbed on the spot. Ramkumar, the youth hailing from a village in the southern district of Tirunelveli, was arrested after the major manhunt in recent years in the state.

According to police, Ramkumar slayed Swathi to death on morning of June 24 at Nungambakkam railway station as she was waiting to board train for her office. Even when he was arrested on July 1 night from the village he allegedly attempted suicide by slitting throat.

Why he failed to face the trial...

Or why he was not allowed to face trial ? ( i.e by encountering him in the Jail through this so called staged suicide ) .
Something very fishy in this whole episode right from the start when he was arrested .

Case closed...seems straight forward to me.

Ramkumar is a depressive individual...handled rejection badly....killed the woman he was attracted too and could not handle the consequences of his actions and finally killed himself.

I do not think there is any conspiracy here...after all Swathi was just a regular office goer like anyone else...and on daily basis young males and females get attracted to each other at work but in this case Ramkumar was not normal guy..

No idea why both Swathi and Ramkumar had such a tragic deaths.

All we can hope is for both to rest in peace.

That is just a police version without any concrete proof and there is various other angles to this case which if exposed will bring lot of discomfort to the ruling establishment and so they need to fix "one person ( in this case Ramkumar ) " and so built a beautiful love rejection story and before the case could come up to the court where the arguments for his arrest had to be defended and since they could not defend this cock and bull story decided to put an end to their own script and the only way to do is to "suicide Ramkumar" in Prison . An excellent co-ordination between the Police , Judiciary and the Prison authorities in this whole drama and we will never know the reason why Swathi was killed ( the real reason and not this cock and bull story ) and why was Ramkumar selected as the target to fix the blame .?

hi

i think so....the culprit is outside...whole drama closed now.....

The culprit is a Muslim guy who loved Swathi and Swathi also loved him. She had plans for converting to Islam. But the political connections and the present religious politics killed both swathi and ramkumar.

You mean the Muslim killed Swathi?...Then how come Ramkumar was identified as the murderer in prison by the witness in the railway station where the murder actually took place??

It does not make any sense to think that Swathi wanted to convert to Islam and marry a Muslim guy.

Why would Ramkumar want to kill her when he does not fit into the profile of a hired killer?

If anyone wants a person killed they would surely hire a time tested killer not a person who has NOT committed a murder before.

Also intercaste and inter religious marriages take place regularly ..there is no need for anyone to be killed for this.

Why would a Muslim want to get a potential convert killed and hire Ramkumar for that?

A Muslim would surely welcome a Non Muslim with open arms if they want to embrace Islam.

So who killed Swathi? Hindus?

See how illogical this is!

Here is the audio of the conversation between Ramkumar's advocate Ramraj and Puzhal Prison Officer and the Prison Officer says that Ramkumar was admitted in the Hospital due to some illhealth and there is no fear of any suicide . This conversation took place when there was rumors going around right from afternoon that Ramkumar committed suicide in the Prison and his lawyer wanted to clarify the same and only late evening the suicide was revealed to the media .

There was no whats up message from Ramkumar in Swathi mobile except his picture. That muslim name is malik who worked along with swathi. Ramkumar is just a messanger. This is actually not told by me. But Y.G Mahendran, S.V.Sekar
and John pandian communist told this. Now election is (local election) is going to be held. It is actually the job of hired killers who had high political connection. They wanted to divert the case. But unfortunately ramkumar was caught and at that time for ramkumar, there was no support. But after his suicide or death (not confirmed), now every big political party wants a CBI Enquiry and High court has also stalled the Autopsy fearing there will be wide spread of violence. Everything now taking a bizarre turn because of his murder or suicide (which is not clear).

Whatever I told is not illogical since religious conversions are the main cause of disturabance in meenachipuram also. He actually hailed from a place where a lot of religious disturbances are there. Muslims are more dominant in central madras. Elections are held , in local elections always DMK will win. There fore they do not want to give any room for these type of problems which will be the downfall of AIADMK government. Ramkumar is not the hired killer. She had been lynched not stabbed. In order to silence, they had slit the throat before also. How can one attempt suicide when CCTV camera is there and also even the black rope wore in the waist is removed. That s why it has become a political issue since he is a Dalit, protecting Muslims caused the vote but they never expected all parties will join hands against the government.

It does not make any sense to think that Swathi wanted to convert to Islam and marry a Muslim guy. It is really the case, an exception is Hindu.

Why would Ramkumar want to kill her when he does not fit into the profile of a hired killer? Yes. Ramkumar did not kill her. Only hired killers.

If anyone wants a person killed they would surely hire a time tested killer not a person who has NOT committed a murder before. Yes you are logic is correct. They employed only a time tested killer.

Also intercaste and inter religious marriages take place regularly ..there is no need for anyone to be killed for this. This is not true in interior villages and fanatics.

Why would a Muslim want to get a potential convert killed and hire Ramkumar for that? They never hired but he became a victim in dirty politics.

A Muslim would surely welcome a NonMuslim with open arms if they want to embrace Islam. This is not true especially if they are very fanatics.

So who killed Swathi? Hindus? Not known (now only hired killers.)

See how illogical this is![/QUOTE]

Kindly note that Tamil Nadu politics is different from the rest. Here for Vote anything will be done. Most of the parties are against Jayalalitha. Even herself is the worst enemy for herself because of her short tempered nature. Where as Karunidhi is well seasoned and matured politician.

It is now reported in an English Daily that taking suo motu cognizance of a news published on the death of Ramkumar, suspect in the Swathi murder case, as a complaint, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed for an enquiry into the suicide incident.

Many TB women too are married to Non Hindu males...no one killed them..so why should just one TB girl get killed if he she was involved in an Intercaste liaison?

BTW I do not feel right speculating about Swathi cos she is no more here to defend herself.

This is the latest development...

Ramkumar’s advocate Ramraj reported to have said that the post-mortem was re-scheduled for Tuesday as the parents did not reach the hospital.

Meanwhile, his family had approached the court demanding a CBI probe into his death. Their other prayers included having a doctor of their choice carry out the post-mortem, which they insisted be videographed.

The bench while hearing the petition, rejected the demand for a CBI probe, saying it does not have the power to decide on the matter.

In Swathi’s case, what vitiated the atmosphere is not the clamour for blood by her family, friends or society, but the conspiracy theories floated by various, mostly unverified quarters in the social media and even in some television channels. While her family and friends were more or less tight-lipped on the murder, leaving the responsibility of bringing the killer to book to the police, inspired campaigns maligning both Swathi and the police and absolving Ram Kumar appeared on the social media. They floated outlandish theories to establish that Ram Kumar was not the killer and was being framed to protect the real killers.
The speculations varied from an alternative love theory and contract killing to stealing strategic secret from the software company she worked in. These theories quoted unverified eye witness-accounts and past behaviour of Swathi to make them credible. Spread mostly on YouTube, these propositions were blatant assertions, with no logic, evidence or even journalistic value, accusing foul-play by police and bad personal and professional conduct by Swathi. Unfortunately, many of them also sought to sully the victim’s character. A number of them were also suggestive of caste discrimination.
Without a serious investigation, it’s hard to understand the motive of, and truth behind, these conspiracy theories. Strangely, it was not one or two, but many. Did all of them originate from a single source or multiple sources? Were they coordinated? Nobody knows. However, the inherent motive appeared to prove that Ram Kumar was innocent. Except a couple of TV channels, no mainstream media paid attention to the campaign.
What got lost in these conspiracy theories, and now his death, is Ram Kumar’s chance to face the law of the land. His lawyer always maintained that he was innocent and was being framed. He even demanded a CBI enquiry. He and Ram Kumar’s family were confident that he would get bail soon because the case of the prosecution was weak. Dalit rights and political leader Thol Thirumavalavan also was not impressed by the police theory and had demanded a CBI enquiry.
What’s noteworthy, in the contest of the alleged “suicide”, was that the high court in early August prevented the police from transporting Ram Kumar to the crime scene for taking his photos and videos. In what appeared to be a minor set back to the police, the court said that it could be done at the jail itself.
Was the evidence against Ram Kumar indeed weak as his supporters argue? Would he have survived the trial? With a fairly high conviction rate (compared to the national average) on IPC cases, did the police have anything to worry? These questions are irrelevant now that he is dead.
Unfortunately, the Swathi murder is now an open-and-shut mystery. Let’s now wait to see how Ram Kumar died.

Probe ordered into techie murder accused Ramkumar's suicide

September 19, 2016 21:40

The Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission today ordered a comprehensive probe into the alleged suicide of Ram Kumar, accused in the murder of 24-year-old IT professional Swathi.

Taking suo motu congnisance of a media report on the death of Ram Kumar yesterday at the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai, SHRC chairperson Justice T Meenakumari directed the ADGP/Director, Investigation Division of the SHRC to 'hold an inquiry by a senior officer and submit a comprehensive report within two weeks'.

Ram Kumar allegedly committed suicide by biting an electric wire in the dispensary of the jail yesterday and a hospital later declared him brought dead.

The SHRC directive comes amid allegations of conspiracy and foul play by Ram Kumar's kin, who raised doubts over the probability of a prisoner committing suicide in a high security central jail.

Also, the matter has gone to the Madras high court.

With the victim and suspected killer no more......craving medias are free to come up with their own speculations and theories.
