Hi All,

I was quite impressed with Sri Praveen's handling of the mini crisis during the last two days. To some it appeared as climb down by Sri Praveen (which in fact takes a lot of mental courage), to some a sense of deja vu, to some victory of sorts, but to most of the members, everything back to normal at the house after a lot of "galatta"

The only way, we the free-boarders, can repay to the forum is by bringing in new set of viewers and this can be achieved by starting new topics for discussion which will attract the newcomers.

All said and done, the maximum time most TBs spend on investigating "brhman" is at best 2 hours a day. So there can only be so much of traffic in theist/atheist philosophies or rituals and we cant expect to improve the traffic substantially The rest of the time, barring sleep time, whether a theist or an atheist is spent on economic pursuit or knowledge pursuit and how to make tomorrow a better day than today.

The one thing that can be discussed through the internet forum is stock trading and investing. If members are willing and participative, we can discuss everything under the sun like micro/macro economics, stock market and commodity market movements, gold and bullion prices upward and downward movements, technical analysis, fundamental analysis, algorithem trading, flash falls, Debt crisis around the world etc.

The second pursuit of human beings is "knowledge accumulation". So many of the members have just about "working knowledge" of computers and have just about basic knowledge of simple PC operations and single finger typing. So people with profund computer knowledge can make the life a little bit easy for the older generation people by sharing tricks and short cuts of many things, like MS excel or MS word or even many of the advanced ideas.

I would solicit as many suggestions from members as possible so that our pursuit of dharma, artha, kama or moksha as also the aim of the promoters of the forum to have a "vibrant forum" can be achieved.

Regards,

narayan

One of the problems with such bulletin board style forum sites is that the model is rather old and stale for any tangible progress. Newer and innovative models of social networking will be required to bring people, bond them to a place and nurture the cybercommunity. In the present form, it is no more than a simple pastime. If the site can be improved to look like LinkedIn or other networking sites, where people can form their own groups for their interests, it will add significant value to the site.

From the participants point of view, I think the most useful short term service might be to donate to their costs of keeping up a free website. I run some 14 websites and I know how much effort and cost it takes to keep them up.

Regarding economic, business and career related threads, we will open such lines of discussion in coming days. It is an excellent suggestion.

Sorry to jump in, there is something called Groups here - http://www.tamilbrahmins.com/groups/

its kind of hidden but can be made proper visible.

A site like Linkedin or newer Social networking sites require a substantial amount of investment.

This is a specialist forum for discussing issues related to tambrams. Discussing all issues under the sun will only weaken its aim and it is counter productive. One can always look for and join issue-focused, domain specific groups to get better knowledge.

The one thing that I would like to emphasize is that everything should be around TB. Even a simple thread gets hijacked (sometime even by me!) world away from TB and that tendency with this suggestion will alienate the thread to TBs. I know that many are NRIs spinning in this thread and they fancy announcing their proximity to Obama starting from Reaganomics. But we should at the best restrict ourselves to India.

My humble opinion: Let the forum be more inclusive rather than exclusive.

More exclusivity = less participation.

There are other TB forums around the web (including social networking ones) which are dying due to lack of participation.

This forum seems to be doing remarkably well, thanks to Mr. Praveen and the members.

The freedom of expression and tolerance of others' views does the trick. And Mr Praveen's formatting works well. Expressions are confessions too. Silence is a weapon inflicting the self. Why kill ourselves.

Dear Sri Iyyarooraan,

Agreed fully. Let the Tamil Brahmins Forum continue to evolve its course with the help of founder Sri Praveen and moderators. Free thinking expands the knowledge, let us not put blinkers to it , except when it exceeds the required decency in expressions.

Regards,
Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.
