General Information

The presiding deity is swayambumurthy in the temple.

The star’s symbol is hand with five fingers, and the nakshatra has been associated with “fate”. The ruling deity of the star is Savitar, who has a light-minded personality and is jovial in his outlook to life. Savitar is supposed to be dexterous or highly skilled with his hands, a reason why Hastham nakshatra is represented by the symbol of the hand with five fingers.

Since Savitar is very similar to the sun, people born in the nakshatra tend to be bright and optimistic about their future. And they also have the ability to procure and secure their objects of desire by any means. Another important characteristic of Hastham starrers is that they have a good possibility of succeeding in the line of commerce and business.

Those belonging to Hastha star are fond of dresses and ornaments. They show interest in education. They enjoy music, dance and other fine arts, talkative and humorous in nature. They voluntarily make friends and are more attached to mother.

Mother Parvathi took the form of a cow and worshipped here, hence the place is named Gopuri (Go-Cow, Puri-place) and Gomal. Lords Vinayaka, Muruga, Lingodhbava, Dakshinamurthy, Brahmma, Nandhi and Chandikeswara grace from the shrines in the prakara.

While devotees place their prayers to the Lord for happy wedding life, child boon and education in general, those born of Hastha star pray for relief from adverse planetary effects in the temple.

Greatness of the Temple

People born of Hastha star are advised to visit this temple as often as they could for the relief they need due to astrological reasons and especially on the Hastha star days. Krupakupareswarar is all merciful pardoning wrong doers if they sincerely feel for their deeds. It is also believed that great saints and siddhas are going round the temple invisibly on Hastha star days. Hence, Hastha starrers are advised to pray on this day with nivedhanas of sweet puddings, vada, laddu praying to Lord and Mother Annapoorani with folded hands and go round the prakara for blessings. Those with confused minds and aspiring for a peaceful life may pray here on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Legend :

Mother Parvathi wanted to know how Lord Shiva is conducting the affairs of this world and asked Lord Himself about it. Lord played a trick that Mother Parvathi in a playful mood covered His eyes with Her hands. Within a fraction of second, the activities of the world came to an abrupt halt. Shocked, Mother Parvathi sought the pardon of the Lord for Her playing. Lord said to Mother that she made the world dark by covering His eyes with Her hands and added that He would now disappear in the Hasthavarna jyothi (light from hands) and that she must find out that light in the form of a cow and join Him again. Parvathi came to earth and began to search for the jyoti with the assistance of Her brother Lord Vishnu. On a Hastha star day, the jyoti appeared. This is also praised as Gomalia Jyoti. Mother Parvathi joined the Jyoti. As the Lord offered his blessings (Krupa) He is named Krupakupareswarar. This is the story behind the temple. Mother was named Annapoorani.

Prayers at the temple:

Krupakupeswarar is a God who is full of mercy to His disciples. People suffering from a variety of ailments would be able to get relief from their problems if they were to pray to Lord Krupakupeswarar, particularly on the day of Hastham Nakshatra. The God, who is known for his mercifulness, would pardon wrongdoers if they were to repent for their mistakes and were willing to surrender to the Lord. Some of the great Saints and Sages are said to be visiting Krupakupeswarar Temple on the day of Hastham nakshatra, and hence, Hastham starrers are advised to visit the temple on the day of their nakshatra.
