Sri Ganesha on Dholkal mountain
This Ganesha idol is located on Dholkal mountain (interiors of Maoist hotbed south Bastar).It has been considered a place of scenic beauty with thousands of archaeological and historical secrets hidden in its torso.
Lord Ganesha here is believed to be 1000 years old says Chattisgarh archaeology and culture department. The idol is 6 ft in length and is located at a height of 13,000 feet, amidst dense forest.
It is presumed that the idol was made long ago during the time of Nagvanshi dynasty in the 9th or 10th century. The idol is made of black granite stone. This age old six-foot idol of the 10th century was discovered by a local journalist in September 2012. Some of the local say earlier there used to be lord shiva and Lord surya too. It is very rare to find Lord Ganesha at such location.
The Archaeology department have also found traces of early man and few of their stone weapons (spear and axe), which means the place hasn't had frequent visitors and remained isolated all these years.
