The longest day of 2020 - Solar Eclipse, also known as Surya Grahan, is here. The 'ring of fire' eclipse has caused panic among many, who are worried about their health during the time of the eclipse. However, the myth has been busted. There is no scientific explanation that the eclipse could affect anybody's health.

According to NASA, the fact that solar eclipse could affect a person;s health, is nothing but a myth. Their section 'Eclipses: Misconception' on their official website addresses the same claims, stating that humans have witnessed eclipses even before having any scientific understanding, so the myths owing to lack of scientific explanation, are understandable.

Some of the age-old beliefs about Solar Eclipse are:

1. It could make one feel nauesous and sick.

2. It could cause mood swings and make you feel all over the place. There is a belief that the eclipse could have psychological impact on humans and interfere with their digestion (which is one reason why people fast during the time period).

3. The solar eclipse is considered harmful for pregnant women. It is considered that the harmful radiations could cause birth defects and abnormalities in the baby.

The only proven way that solar eclipse could affect a person's health is if they view the Surya Grahan directly. In such a case, the person could suffer from retinal injury and could even lead to 'eclipse blindness'. It is thus recommended to view the solar eclipse with the help of 'solar eclipse glasses', or watch it on live stream.
