can anybody tell whether married persons can perform gayathri homam at home ( one samith to be offered for each manthra in agni) because some persons say gayathri manthra can only be chanted only silently and only brahmachari's can do gayathri homam.

Hi Kannan,
Definitely you can do gayathri homam. Since you are a grihastan you have to do vichinna agni santhana first. This is done in case if you are not doing aupasana daily. And as per the gruhya sutra either apastamba or baudhayana agni mukham procedure should be done. Then you can do the sankalpa and do the gayathri homam. One thing should be noted is agni upasthana mantra should be chanted only after the completion Gayathri homam ahuti.
