The 24-year-old man from the audience, Akil Malik, touched Khan and then slapped her, saying she was wearing short clothes, said the police. The man has been arrested by the Mumbai Police. He has been charged with molestation under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.

Gauahar Khan was attacked and threatened by Akil who said that, "being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress", Aarey Colony police said.

According to reports, there were 250 bouncers and 2,500 people present at the venue. Yet, the man managed to break the security cordon and get into an argument with Khan.

The man managed to reach Gauahar when she was being escorted out of the place. Reports say, the actress was shocked and was crying a lot.

"A stunned Gauahar didn't understand what happened. Though the shooting was stopped, Gauahar took a break of an hour to gather her bearings and then reported back on stage to finish the leftover one hour shoot," a leading daily reports.

Malik will be produced at Boriwali Court on Monday.

The actor was shooting at Mumbai's Film City in Goregaon when the incident took place.

Gauahar Khan says assault made her stronger than ever

Model and reality TV star Gauahar Khan, who was slapped by a youth for wearing short dress while shooting a reality show, said on Tuesday that she was "hurt and shocked" by the attack but the incident has made her determined.

The assault happened on Sunday while Gauahar was hosting the finale of 'India's Raw Star' at Film City in Mumbai. Twenty four-year-old Akil Malik, an audience member, slapped her during the break of the show. He said that being a Muslim woman, the actress should not have worn a short dress.

"I assure you all that I am hurt but not out. I am shocked but more determined. I felt injured but stronger than ever," Gauahar said. She also thanked her family and friends for supporting her.

Malik, who had been coming over to the shooting set of the show as a member of the audience for the past three days, had managed to get on to the stage despite a strong presence of over 250 bouncers and 2,500 people.
Later, Malik tried to touch Gauahar and criticised her for wearing skimpy clothes and dancing to item songs "despite being a Muslim". Before a stunned Gauahar could realise what was happening, Malik slapped her, leaving her in tears.

"This loser doesn't represent my beautiful faith which in itself means peace and submission. He apparently attacked me because I am an actress. He wanted to send out his warped message. I am using the same status to appeal all women to stand against such acts. Also, despite the shock, I didn't let the incident spoil the finale of the show and completed my shoot," Gauahar said.

"I feel the pain of all women who go through such kind of attacks in the name of moral policing. I know this man does not represent the youth of India because the coward was outnumbered by the young boys who were outraged by his cowardly attack on me," she said.
