Should Hindi be opposed by non Hindi speaking states?

Should hindi be opposed by non Hindi speaking states?

I believe the division into states according to language spoken is a mistaken one. That should first be set right. Great incentives should be given for people to move to other states than their mother tongue states. Great incentives should also be given to people to learn other languages.

Efforts should be made to inculcate in people healthy respect for other languages and people.

If the above efforts are made Hindi can formally be language by which the affairs of the government are conducted because other people will not feel they are being let down.

The above approach should be adopted for managing diversity in general. The government and the ruling party should lead the efforts in getting the confidence of any minority in general and not try to play politics with them.

Its fair enough for Non Hindi speaking states to refuse Hindi till Hindi speaking states learn a South Indian language as their 2nd language.

Then watch the fun..the Hindi speaking states would protest.

School syllabus in Non Hindi speaking states should have Hindi as a 2nd language and Hindi speaking states and states that speak any Indo Aryan language should pick a South language( Dravidian group of languages) as the 2nd language.

North east India could opt to choose any language they wish as their native language is neither Indo Aryan nor Dravidian group of languages and are mostly Sino- Tibetian group of languages.

Only then its fair to all in India.
In Malaysia, Malay is the 1st language in school, 2nd language is English and 3rd language is Mandarin for Chinese and Tamil for Tamilians.

Those of Punjabi descend privately study Punjabi and sit for O levels Punjabi in school exams.

It is ironic as everyone knows that the hindi imposition is opposed but politicians want problems to be alive. No real solutions will happen till the politicians are in the mindset of creating and sustaining divisiveness for their benefits.

The politicians are not here to serve people but themselves. The network is strong and deep.

Dear Suresh,

I agree there should be no imposition but every Indian should be encouraged to be move to other parts of India than their birth state. Again there should be no force. Some may opt for it, some may not. The idea is the resolution of the problem should not be by force.

We Indians (sic) do not treat outsiders including other Indians with respect. Out of state or even out of town people are treated as migrant and looked down upon. We saw the extrema cases during Pandemic. The people from NE India who worked Karnataka were treated very badly. Similarly, people from Bihar and UP were treated as disposable beings. WE do move within India. But those from out of state are treated as 2nd class citizens.
Language is a dividing issue. Politicians used it to divide Indians.
As a Tamilian born and brought up in what is Jharkhand. I know the reality. Fortunately, Tata made Jamshed a melting pot and language was not an issue. But by stressing regional languages and not having a nationwide language we are permanently divided.
If travel to Bengal or Karnataka, you cannot read the street sign, bus destinations, or train stations. It is a shame.

It is true that there have been instances of discrimination against people from other states within India, particularly during the pandemic when many migrants were treated poorly. Language can also be a source of division, as politicians have been known to use it to stir up regional tensions. However, it's worth noting that India is a diverse country with many languages and cultures, and having multiple official languages can also be seen as a strength, as it allows for the recognition and celebration of this diversity. Additionally, the Government of India has taken steps to promote the use of a common language, Hindi, as a means of fostering national unity. But states do not promote Hindi (or English), so we do not have a national language. It's important for people to be aware of these issues and to work towards treating everyone with respect and understanding, regardless of their background.

But I feel almost the whole world loved this Telugu song when it won the Golden Globe award and a Tik Tok challenge to dance to it went viral around the whole world.
I am glad that a Non Hindi movie song won the Golden Globe because even the Film industry is divisive in the sense that ONLY Bollywood was seen as Indian and other state movie industries were seen as regional.
Its high time all states movie industries are seen as Indian.

Respected srvna , Tamils who move to dharavi learn hindi to survive in mumbai that should be only way it is to be . Other people who come other state learn the language of state not uniformed language on all state

The term 'opposing hindi' seems inappropriate. What is being despised is imposition of hindi and mandating everyone to learn hindi overtly or covertly. learning new languages, adding languages to our knowledge base is advantageous and everyone is aware of this basic fundamental truth. Some learn additional languages out of interest. Some learn out of compulsion, for instance having to relocate to a town in a different state speaking a hitherto unknown language. some choose not to learn for reasons best known to themselves.

the need for a common language for communication to eliminate learning of numerous languages was sensed. some individuals in the helm of affairs opted to declare hindi for that purpose which met with stiff resistance from some quarters. hindi has limited scope, only within india.

thankfully there exists a language with a wider, broader, greater scope which is advantageous in numerous ways and that language is english. but english is being rejected by northerners by a sentimental reason that it was language imposed on us by imperialists. should saner counsel prevail, english must be declared as language for inter-state communication.

let the citizens be given freedom to choose to learn or not learn any language.

No imposition will ever work in the long run. But blind opposition is also not correct. Learning a language is as productive if not more than learning science because you are learning culture too. People should be encouraged to learn multiple languages and not forced and only that will solve both imposition and opposition.

The criteria is what the benefit it does bring to learner of other language .
