watched a you tube series made by iskon Sydney chapter where they were explaining Vedic cosmology as stated in the 5th canto of srimad bhagavatam.

the video says the bhu Loka was partitioned into 7 concentric islands with the sumeru mountain as a pivot and each island was ruled by one of the grandsons of Brahma. the centre most island was jambudveepa which was surrounded by salt water.

jambudveepa was further partitioned into 9 varasas by the next generation and one of these is called Bharat varasa. Bharata further partitioned Bharata varasa into 9 khandas the southern most tip of which is Bharata khanda which represents our planet earth.

my earlier understanding as per the explanation of sankalpam is that jambudveepa represented the Indian ocean, Bharata varasa represented the place ruled by king bharata and bharata khande represented India.

now am confused..will be digging deeper.
