Dear Sudanchu,

As far as I know there is no specific rituals to be performed. You can start your thiruvaarathanam on an auspicious day straightaway.

Please show the salagrama murthi to a learned person to identify the nature of the murthy (such as koorma murthy, varaaha murthy, sudharsanam, nrusimha etc.,) Depending upon this, we have to follow certain strict adherance before starting the aaradanams. For Shanta murthys (such as koorma, varaaha, gopala, etc.,) no strict pre adherance is required.

Thirumanjanam by cow's milk is preferred.
