I like that.. hope that is what law tells.. Otherwise Jayalalitha's candidature will become invalid.. and then dummy guy like Traffic Ramaswamy will become MLA with 10-15 votes from his family.

Recently five Inspectors of Police were transferred out of R.K. Nagar constituency but this posting order was subsequently cancelled by E.C. and they were retained.

Every time Chief Minister Jayalalithaa declares her wealth, it doubles.
As on Friday, the AIADMK supremo has declared assets worth Rs 117.13 crore. She has movable assets worth Rs. 45.04 crore and immovable assets worth Rs.72.09 crore.
When she filed the affidavit in Srirangam for the 2011 Assembly elections, she declared assets worth Rs 51.40 crore, against Rs 24.7 crore in 2006.
In the affidavit she furnished before the Returning Officer on Friday along with the nomination papers to contest the R.K. Nagar by-elections, Ms. Jayalalithaa stated that her deposits amounted to Rs. 9.80 crore. She had invested Rs 31.68 crore in five firms, including Kodand Estate, as a partner.

Greeted by thousands of supporters who flocked to Tondiarpet Ms. Jayalalithaa, accompanied by her aide Sasikala, filed her nomination for the by-poll in R.K. Nagar in north Chennai. Her first contest in an urban constituency, the June 27 by-election which Ms. Jayalalithaa is widely expected to win, has brought crucial civic challenges – such as drinking water supply, conservancy and pollution – to the fore.

The gleaming tarred roads, with some stretches remaining sticky on Friday due to the fresh coats of tar, surprised residents of the under-developed locality, once the city’s trade hub. “The entire road was laid yesterday. Many of the speed breakers in the area have been levelled. This kind of swiftness in civic work is very rare, that too in this part of the city,” said an autorickshaw driver, a long-time resident of Old Washermenpet, who drives in and around north Chennai.

Hours ahead of Ms. Jayalalithaa’s visit to the constituency on Friday, traffic bottlenecks developed around Royapuram and Old Washermenpet. Police blocked vehicle entry to certain arterial roads in the area and diverted traffic to smaller lanes.
Despite the afternoon heat, supporters lined themselves along a long row of barricades on Tiruvottiyur High Road before Ms. Jayalalithaa filed her nomination at the Chennai Corporation Zonal office here, waiting for hours together to have a glimpse of ‘Amma’.

As on date there is no opposition to Amma in Tamil Nadu. She will win the election with distinction, where ever and when ever held. R.K.Nagar by-election is no exception. This reminds me of the famous prediction in horse race "Eclipse first, the rest nowhere". which has come true.

In 2010 by-election, when DMK ruled, AIADMK lost deposit. In 2011, AIADMK came to power and DMK even lost the Leader of Opposition status. Generally, by-election is not an eye-opener.

The strategy was reported to be like this. On the crucial days, local leaders of respective parties will organize a grand celebration of either grand-son or grand-daughter birth day function, Baby naming function, etc which will be in fact a ‘dummy’ one. In the feast, sumptuous cuisines, Briyani, etc will be served in abundant measure to all the members who visit. Message will spread locally through word of mouth, virality, etc., And finally, all these participants will be distributed with costly return gift after getting a commitment or promise that they will favour a particular party while exercising their franchise.

We are all very happy and in fact jubilant on hearing the news about Madam's win.

But in politics anything may happen. What happened during the 1996 general election, ADMK suffered a rout. Most of sitting ministers of the ADMK government, including the chief minister Jayalalithaa lost their seats. Public opinion is like a pendulum which is tend to swing.

The left front was successfully ruling West Bengal State from 1977 to 2011.

History has taught us lessons on rise and fall the great leaders.

RK Nagar polls:Oppn parties cry foul

Chennai: Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu today alleged that democratic norms were not followed in the RK Nagar byelection where AIADMK Supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa won by a massive margin.

In a statement here, DMK Treasurer M K Stalin alleged that the RK Nagar by-election was an example of the breakdown of all democratic systems.

''We have witnessed several electoral violations that have gone un-reprimanded and “un-noticed” by the Election Commission. AIADMK party men have forcefully entered booths to vote. Money was openly distributed for votes and independent candidates were attacked and oppressed'', he charged.

Stalin said new roads were laid after the elections were announced.

Traffic Ramaswamy, an Independent candidate, was openly threatened by the AIADMK and was also physically attacked.
The Election Commission and the police have remained silent spectators throughout this process, Stalin alleged and questioned the silence of the EC on this issue.

He said the way in which democracy has been systematically dismantled by the AIADMK in this election, if this is what the RK Nagar elections have come down to, it is not hard to imagine how the upcoming Assembly elections (due next year) will be held.

''I appeal to the election commission to maintain neutrality in the interest of democracy. The DMK will fight any attempts to subvert democracy'', he added.

CPI(M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan and TNCC President EVKS Elangovan also alleged that EC had remained silent to various violations indulged in by the AIADMK.
