The remarks made by many Right-wing elements are best ignored at most times. But when an elected MP starts threatening the government to which he belongs, then it is time that those in authority gave a fitting riposte.

Sakshi Maharaj, an MP from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, had indulged in a rant warning the government to fulfil the Hindu agenda along with the economic one. He backtracked later, saying that he was misquoted by the media.

There have been several statements from the so-called custodians of Hindutva like VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi, who urged Hindu women to have at least four children. When her remarks were condemned in the Press, the sadhvi replied saying she had only asked women to have four children, ‘not 40 puppies’! There have been others who have been urging women to have more children so that the Hindu rate of birth goes up and is not subsumed by other religions. That none of these fears of being overrun by other religions has any scientific basis should be highlighted along with the fact that the number of children any woman chooses to have is a personal choice. Producing more children in a family which is in poverty hardly seems a way to better the lot of Hindus.

The fact is that the Sakshi Maharajs seem emboldened by the fact that there is a perceived Hindutva-oriented government at the Centre. This notion must be dispelled. Whatever the proclivities of the BJP, the government has made it clear that they will pursue only a secular and inclusive agenda consistent with our Constitution. However, the government must be firm and vocal that these elements are not speaking in its name and that it has no truck with such regressive statements. The national population policy makes it clear that people have every right to determine the size of their family while making it clear that the government has the responsibility of allowing people to make informed choices. Sakshi Maharaj seems to have overstepped the limit in trying to pursue his Hindu agenda. He must be reminded that he is bound by the Constitution. And this message should be sent home by the highest quarter in his party.

Remarks by Hindutva brigade not helping BJP's agenda

There does not seem to be any Hindu agenda. The agenda has always been generally anti-hindu and pro-minority. This must be clear for any astute observer without any anti-hindu bias. Otherwise why all this clamor from many groups to get a minority declaration. Jains are a declared minority. I.e. Non-hindu. So are the Buddhists, Sikhs, etc. At one point of time, they were all treated as hindus. Not anymore because all these groups realized the benefits of being declared a non-hindu minority. The lingayats, the veerashaivas, the Ramakrishna mission, the followers of saibaba - everyone wants to be declared a minority because of this constant assault against Hindus.

Nothing much has changed for hindus with the ascendancy of BJP except for this increased din against Hindus in forums such as this one.

Here is a detailed report on what actually happened in Trilokpuri.

Newslaundry ? From Brawl To Riot: Reports From Trilokpuri And Majnu Ka Tila

FROM BRAWL TO RIOT: REPORTS FROM TRILOKPURI AND MAJNU KA TILA

Trilokpuri in east Delhi and Chandrawal near Majnu Ka Tila in north Delhi – located on different sides of the Yamuna – witnessed what is a ritual in most parts of the country during Diwali: drunken brawls.
In Chandrawal, a few inebriated young boys who belong to the Sansi community got annoyed with a bunch of kids from the Valmiki community who were bursting firecrackers and roughed them up. Within a few hours, it became, as newspapers reported the next day, a “clash between two communities”, with both groups, who live on opposites sides of the street, going on a stone-pelting drive. The Valmikis and Sansis are Scheduled Caste communities. Both sides bore the brunt, and better sense prevailed soon. On Monday, when we visited the area, it was business as usual and the calm, to use a cliché, was not tense.

The Pradhans of both sides conceded that the episode was unnecessary and very avoidable, and, more importantly, it was the handiwork of a few unruly miscreants and nothing more.
In Trilokpuri, where Section-144 continues to remain in effect, providing a strange and sudden insulation to the area, the first part of the narrative is strikingly similar. The subsequent sequence of events took a more sinister turn, though, leading to a riot-like situation, leveraged upon an ever-increasing suspicious relationship between the country’s two largest religious groups.

About 60 people have been arrested since the violence first broke out in Trilokpuri. The east-Delhi neighbourhood that was fashioned as a resettlement colony during the Emergency is divided into 38 blocks that are home to Hindus (mostly Dalits), Muslims and Sikhs. The rioting was largely restricted to Block 20, 26 and 15.

Companies of Rapid Action Force continue to patrol the streets to ensure calm, even as Delhi Police remains on high alert in the area. Block 20, where the Hindu community had erected a “Mata Ki Chowki” during Navratri, is barricaded and the road leading up to it bears witness to the stone-pelting that followed Diwali celebrations. Almost everyone you speak to in the neighbourhood agrees that it all started from the makeshift chowki, but no one is really sure how the fight escalated into a full-blown riot. Versions differ depending on who or which community you speak to.

Chowki and loudspeaker
The Mata Ki Chowki, sections of Hindu families we spoke to claimed, was erected during Navratri at what used to be a garbage disposal site. This was supposed to be a temporary structure, but seeing that it was helping keep the place clean, it was decided that the chowki would be turned into a permanent temple. “On the night of Diwali, some people were drinking there and relieved themselves near thechowki. Naturally, this angered us and fights erupted after this,” said a man living a few metres away from the chowki. Another one joins in and said they were inspired by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan to keep the area clean.

However, as you move towards the two lanes that have a concentration of Muslim households in block 20, you hear a different version of events. A bunch of women gathered outside their homes complained that the media has not made an effort to visit them and hear their story.

According to them, the fight happened on Thursday when Muslims had gathered in the neighbourhood mosque, just 200 metres away from the chowki, to offer “isha ki namaaz”, or night prayer. “Since the music from the chowki was very loud, we had asked them to turn it down for about 20 minutes for us to finish our prayers. Instead, they turned up the volume. When a boy was sent from the mosque to request them to turn the music down, he was slapped around. And that is how the fight started,” said Yasmeen, whose husband works as a tailor in the neighbourhood.

Booze and brawls
Though there seem to be various versions of what happened around the chowki, many Muslims and Hindus believe that the whole issue started off as nothing but a scuffle between a group of young boys. Joint Commissioner of Police (Security), Sanjay Beniwal, agreed and told us later at the Mayur Vihar, Phase 1, Police Station, that the whole incident is being interpreted by various people in their own way. He also stated that vile gossip on social-networking platforms has only made the situation worse. The Delhi Police indeed can only go so far as to control wagging tongues in the area, not in the virtual space.

He stated that it would be wrong to give it a Hindu-Muslim angle since the fight initially broke out between a bunch of youngsters – both Hindus and Muslims – who were sitting and drinking together. In block 20, many Muslim and Hindus agree that alcohol and gambling is a big problem with the youth. In fact, the head priest of the community temple puts things in perspective: “There are many young men here who do nothing at all, with serious alcohol issues, and always ready to pick up a fight.” He maintains that this is a problem across both communities – something confirmed by Beniwal. “You name a crime and we have multiple repeat offenders from the area,” he says, adding that Trilokpuri has always been a problem area for Delhi Police. According to Beniwal, east Delhi, where Trilokpuri is located, has the second-highest crime rate in the city.

Trajectory of two clashes

While there may be several versions of what exactly led to the Trilokpuri riots, there is consensus across both communities regarding the basic premise: a bunch of unruly young miscreants crossing the line under the influence of alcohol. Which is exactly what happened in Chandrawal too. Except that in Trilokpuri the players involved happened to be Muslims and Hindus, making it easy for vested interest to give it a communal hue.

Police accounts confirm that the Trilokpuri episode was essentially a random act of hooliganism that is more than common during the festive season. But set it against context and backdrop – two groups of people increasingly being pitched against each other and a locality that’s rife with unemployed youth often indulging in petty crimes – and you have the Trilokpuri “riots”.

With a political change in the capital almost imminent, there are murmurs of ex-MLA of the region, Sunil Vaidya, trying to cash in on the situation. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have made not-so-subtle insinuations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to polarise the situation. Trilokpuri’s current MLA Raju Dhingan is, however, from the AAP itself and has been missing in action. Locals claim Dhingan has not made a single visit to the neighbourhood since things became ugly. Also, residents from both communities refute Kejriwal’s claims that AAP’s volunteers have been working on ground to restore peace.

Meanwhile, as social media rails on about #Trilokpuri, stoking more unsubstantiated rumours, a group of senior citizens have come together in the area to restore peace.

From the report, it is clear that it is the supporters of AAP and Congress in their zeal to come to power who are trying to communalize this issue. Another proof of diabolical and nefarious schemes of "secular liberals"!

All delhi's problems will be solved if immigrants from bangla desh are identified and deported. Nothing to do with religion, but a civic action of any responsible government.

And the old name 'indraprastha' must be restored, by following the proper procedure, and by an act of delhi assembly.

Any anyone who blindly believes what is published in the secular english media must pause, look for secondary validation before regurgling it.

Let us hope the monitoring institutions like press council and ombudsman take their job seriously and issue alerts and warnings when magazines file flagrant lies. In his last address before the election modi flayed the press for trading and spreading lies. Thick skinned pressitute has not reported it as usual.

The same can be said about you every time you talk about TN or any place other than Delhi. So don't write as if you are the only arbiter of truth.

BTW, you made the same statement regarding "ground realities" and "truth" before Lok sabha elections. The decision of the poor was not palatable to you then? huh.

People who stay stubborn even when presented with contradicting facts won't learn anything even if they visit a thousand online sites and write eloquently about them.

Delhi had 25 years of congress rule and 49 days of ak. Sensible and intelligent delhiwalas know about promise breakers, U turn bhagodas, blatant support from middle east, communists and lawless bengal, and himalayan liers.

Amazing some delhiwalas are so inobservant not to notice what is happening in their front and back yards. Refusal to face truth is the worst crime one can think of. I am sure you can find references on migrants in delhi. There is a delhi court judgement on this issue too.

[h=1]Centre rapped over illegal Bangladeshi migrants[/h]
TNN | Nov 6, 2014, 11.09PM IST
NEW DELHI: A trial court has rapped the Centre for "not taking firm and resolute" action against more than three crore illegal Bangladeshi migrants. The court stated that the issue requires immediate government intervention and expressed concern over involvement of these migrants in robberies, dacoities, murders and rapes in the capital.

The court made the observations while handing down life imprisonment to a habitual offender, who was deported from India and had returned illegally and committed the murder.

Criticizing the government for its failure to act against illegal migrants, the court said their influx has become a major challenge as they are not only enjoying all benefits at the cost of citizens but the country has become a haven for these criminal elements. "Bangladeshi influx is a serious issue that requires urgent political debate, governmental intervention and concerted action, before it becomes too late," Additional sessions judge Kamini Lau said.

Catholic Bishop conference in Kerala issues warning against selfies and 'Love Jihad'

The News Minute| February 5, 2015|
Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KCBC) has issued a circular that is to be read in catholic churches in the state against the trend of selfies and 'dangerous love affairs'
The circular warns the younger generation about selfies and says that social media and mobile phones can mislead the younger generations.
“Through selfies children expose themselves to others, this should not be allowed. Parents should control them and teach them not to get involved in such practices . These practices can attract people and they will swoop down like vultures” says the circular written by Bishop Vincent Samuel.
The circular also warns catholic parents that their children are living in dangerous times, and that cases of fake love affairs which lead to religious conversions are increasing.
“Through fake love affairs they can convert your children to other religion and later lead to terrorism and other anti social activities. So beware and teach them to stick on to catholic beliefs” says the circular.

It also urges parents to hold back their children to catholic belief and to live according to the norms of Christianity.

I agree with most of the comments particularly Mr Prasad and Mr krish44. Tirulokpuri is also my neighbourhood. Modi has failed to control his MPs, MLAs and other BJP leaders. one demands 10 children, another, surya namaskar in schools, etc etc. Modi has not even completed one year but some BJP leaders think they have captured Himalaya. I think Modi himself is careful in commenting on various issues. the way secretaries are shunted out shud be seen a good governance. I sincerely wish BJP takes over Delhi which is not only good for Delhi but center-state (UT) relation. let us hope for the best - srinivasan

if christrian interests in delhi are hurt, western countries and US will vociferously speak up.

the way the priests and nuns protesting vandlising of churches were treated by the police and bundled and taken

away in police buses presented a bad picture of india abroad.

today obama spoke up about lack of religeous tolerance in india citing gandhiji.

sounds very damaging coming as it does from US which has a poor record of religeous tolerance and bad treatment of

coloured americans and muslims. it is interference in indias internal affairs

Perhaps I may be right to an extent if I were to say that the purported uproar over so called hindutva (re)actions is nothing but a false cry of "wolf"!

Throughout the congress rule, and bridled with a prejudiced media, India has always been subject to two kinds of cultural invasion - one overt and the other, covert. And, understandably, these have been swept under layers of secular rugs by that section of the socio-political ruling mass, which seeks to reap benefits by keeping the conflict simmering underneath a pretentious veneer of neutrality.

The best way, perhaps, to tide over an attack of cunning would be to use the same method; force would not work. Better for the party to investigate funding and build legal cases that could be defended with proof. Once the cash-bed dies, the fishes would either have to move to another source or to wither away.

Cash inflow will dry up. More than 700 NGOs have been issued ED notices for tax evasion, non disclosure and money related issues. Bjp govt is strengthening the administrative machinery to plug holes and misuse of laws. Filing cases and forcing will be counter productive because the judicial process is painfully slow. The judiciary has not welcomed the suggestion of the govt to work in two shifts and work without summer break. It has not come out with any suggestion for speedy justice. Even 2G and maran related cases have made no progress. Legal route is the slowest route.

yes y r right. even today blacks r treated as pariahs. if y touch single white they simply dislike the blacks. only after Obama came to power, some blacks got some good job even in Govt. USA has no face to critisize India on racism - srinivasan

Delhi election proved it. lower BJP cadres subbotaged the election since BJP highcommand deserted and ignored them - srinivasan

Obama is acting as a stooge of the Church....It will do no good for him in India

I true friend is not your chamcha. A friend can point out your faults and failings, just as he praises your success. If you are looking for "yes" man you have to buy one, and he will ditch you the day you can not pay him. A friend must be honest. So don't throw away an advice from a true friend, just because it is unpalatable to you today.
