Madras High Court “smells a rat” in the Magistrate’s actions, recommends initiation of contempt proceedings

“This court smells a rat in the act of the learned Judicial Magistrate, Melur,

Observing that, “One can wake up a sleeping man, but not a person pretending to sleep. The JM belong to latter category,” Justice Prakash hence directed HC Registry to send a copy of its recommendation to the Chief Justice to initiate contempt proceedings or disciplinary proceedings or both against the JM.

Criminal prosecution ordered against former Collector Anshul Mishra, two SPPs


Days after the Madras High Court’s Madurai Bench proposed contempt proceedings against Melur Judicial Magistrate K.V. Mahendra Boopathy after “smelling a rat” in the way he handled illegal granite quarry cases, the judicial officer on Tuesday acquitted PRP Granites, a leading mining company, and another firm, but ordered criminal prosecution against former Madurai Collector Anshul Mishra and two Special Public Prosecutors (SPPs) for “suppressing facts.”

In any profession,

Inefficient is a misfit ; and corrupt is a unfit.

Both bring, " head down" to the profession.
