Rapist Lynched by furious mob

Thousands of furious Indians swarmed the streets to publicly - and violently - kill a man who was suspected of being a rapist.

The pictures have emerged after they broke into a prison, kidnapped the man, stripped him naked and mercilessly beat him to death in front of a frenzied crowd.

A 25-year-old believed to be part of the mob was injured when police opened fire and he later died in hospital.

It overpowered security at the Central Jail in the city of Dimapur and grabbed the man who apparently raped a female student multiple times last month.

According to local media reports, he died while being dragged four miles through the streets as people beat and pelted him with stones.

He has been identified as a 35-year-old used car trader, according to The Indian Express.

English TV channels have not sent any high profile reporters to do live broadcasting of this sorry and avoidable event, even though violent reactions were indicated. Why so, our secular society can introspect. To be precise, there is no Hindu connection!

Anger mounted on Saturday over the mob lynching of a rape accused in Nagaland as chief minister TR Zeliang blamed social media and his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi cast a shadow on the case, saying unconfirmed medical reports had ruled out rape.
Three Nagaland officials have been suspended but no case has been registered yet, two days after 35-year-old Syed Farid Khan -- accused of raping a woman multiple times and arrested on February 24 — was dragged out of prison in Dimapur by a mob before being beaten to death and strung up on a clock tower.

Circumstances surrounding the case, however, grew hazier with Khan’s brother Jamaluddin alleging medical reports hadn’t confirmed rape, a claim repeated by the Assam CM later in the day to TV reporters.

“The lynching was the result of the Nagaland government allowing anti-migrant sentiments to grow over the years,” said Ataur Rahman Mazarbhuiya, a leader.

Gogoi has also written to Singh, asking him to take up the matter strongly with Nagaland. “Attacks on people of a particular community can have widespread repercussion in Assam, which has a huge population of Muslims,” he wrote on Friday.

Home ministry sources, too, said the woman who had levelled the rape charges knew Khan well. “The girl and her associates had demanded Rs 2 lakh from him,” Khan’s younger brother Suberuddin said. The police said it was yet to receive medical reports.

it is a case of fixing of male belonging to another religion, state, being fixed by locals for falling in love .

similar things happen to males and girls in intercaste matches in rural india.

india can be very intolerant at times.

those who are stoking religeous tensions are playing a dangerous game.

they will escape.

only the poor belonging to two religions will suffer

The media is playing coy and avoid stating that the lynching mob comprises people from the christian majority (>90%). By not stating this point, but stating that the victim is a muslim, gives the impression that Hindus were involved.

This poster reports like an eye witness to the untoward incident, adding his own masala perceptions to the news - where comes love here.

It is 'Outsider' that matters. Please go thro this news item:

"Dimapur mob fury: Why 10,000 people lynched 'outsider' rape accused

On 5 March, the country was jolted by a horrific incident that questioned the security of India's jails. Thousands of people stormed a jail in Dimapur, Nagaland, dragged a man accused of rape out on the streets, stripped him and then lynched him. The man had allegedly raped a 20-year-old Naga college student several times on 23 and 24 February. Infuriated by the news, residents of Dimapur decided to turn vigilantes and murder the man in full public view.

As pictures of the incident surfaced, one could see young men, gleefully snapping pictures of a naked, blood-drenched and probably lifeless 35-year-old Syed Farid Khan.

From the images it could be easily made out that none present in the vicinity was remotely remorseful of killing the man in such brutal way. The overpowered cops were mute spectators to the violent incident.

Mob rule is not new if we look into history.

The gory incident reminds of a practice that exists in South Africa. Reports say that rapists are made "victims of necklacing, a brutal apartheid-era practise of putting a tyre around someone's neck, dousing it in petrol and setting it alight". According to Aljazeera, one "Simon Mynekeni was killed for allegedly raping and murdering an elderly woman, without proof, and, extraordinarily, while the police were present, he was attacked by a mob".

Khan's death comes very close. Although he is reported to have admitted to the crime he was yet to be convicted by the court of law.

Khan's death caused by a barbaric and blood thirsty mob of over 10,000 was not a result of anger against a rapist. The trigger for such violence was obviously the rape but within it lies a issue of territorial pride

what matters is a matter of opinion.
the fact is one person belonging to another religion and state was killed brutally by mob

whether the persons who did this act were hindus or christians is irrelevant. they belonged to a different religion and states involved are assam and nagaland. what could be the real cause is open to interpretation by sociologists

basic issue is one of mob justice versus rule of law.

it is gross failure of state.

This is Sarcasm,
Who cares for justice, the victim was a Muslim.
The culprits may not be Hindus.
What is the problem?

It is college and school girls in uniform. Just read this news report:

"Dimapur lynching: College girls led the lynch mob, says top cop

Three senior officials of Dimapur, including the SP and the Central jail chief, were suspended on Friday, a day after a rape suspect was dragged out of the prison and lynched by a mob in this Nagaland town where the situation was stated to be tense but under control. One person, who was among the five injured in police firing on the mob, succumbed on Saturday, police told PTI.

Neighbouring Assam was put on high alert by the Centre following the incident in Dimapur as the rape accused Farid Khan is believed to be from that state. Khan had allegedly raped a Naga woman several times before he was arrested on February 25.

According to a report in
The India Express, the police said they could not use force to save the rapist as the lynch mob was led by college and school-going girls. "How could I use maximum force when there were hundreds of girls in school and college uniforms in the front of a massive mob? It was difficult. There would have been several casualties," Dimapur SP Meren Jamir told The Indian Express.

When mobs take the law into their own hands, a common justification is to cite India’s slow and often biased judicial system. This was not one of those cases. Ten days after a reported rape in Dimapur, Nagaland, a mob broke into the city’s Central Jail, dragged Syed Farid Khan, the man accused of having committed the crime, into the streets of the city, and stripped, beat and lynched him, all the while filming the crime on their phones. There was no delayed justice, no compromised police force, no shocking acquittal here, yet the mob decided to kill a man who merely stood accused of a crime. The fact that the deceased was a Muslim — or a “Bangladeshi”, as has become the shorthand in large parts of India including its northeast — was central to the mob’s fury. Using violence to act out caste and religious hatred has a long and inglorious history in India, and sexual violence too frequently has underpinnings of caste and religious hatred to it.

This what was explicitly exhibited in post#2. This person is exhibiting the bigoted stance. He is happy that Hindus are not blamed or the victim. He fails to acknowledge that victim and perpetrators were Indians.

What is the problem?

The problem is how the media handles and reports, even when the facts are known. The media will have played the lynching scene in loop for days together, blamed rss, bjp and assorted normal and peace loving groups, asserted that bjp govt had staged the attack and so on. The secular, socialist, communist and minority religion panelists in TV discussions will blame non existent communal hindus.

Till all the pseudo secular elements are identified and countered problem will remain.
