What's Really In Potato Chips?

To understand the nature of Pringles and
other stackable chips, forget the notion that they come from actual
potatoes in any recognizable way.

The Pringles Company (in an effort to avoid taxes levied against
luxury foods like chips in the UK) once even argued that the
potato content of their chips was so low that they are technically
not even potato chips.

So if they're not made of potatoes, what are they exactly?
The process begins with a slurry of rice, wheat, corn, and potato
flakes that are pressed into shape.
This dough-like substance is then rolled out into an ultra-thin sheet
cut into chip-cookies by a machine.

According to io9:
The chips move forward on a conveyor belt until they're pressed
onto molds, which give them the curve that makes them fit into one another.
Those molds move through boiling oil Then they're blown dry,
sprayed with powdered flavors, and at last, flipped onto a slower-moving
conveyor belt in a way that allows them to stack.
From then on, it's into the cans and off towards the innocent
mouths of the consumers.

I suspect nearly everyone reading this likely enjoys the taste of
potato chips. However, they are clearly one of the most toxic
processed foods you can eat whether they're made from actual potato shavings or not.
Potato Chips are Loaded with Cancer-Causing Chemical
One of the most hazardous ingredients in potato chips is not
intentionally added, but rather is a byproduct of the processing.
Acrylamide, a cancer-causing and potentially neurotoxic chemical,
is created when carbohydrate-rich foods are cooked at high
temperatures, whether baked, fried, roasted or toasted.

Some of the worst offenders include potato chips and
French fries, but many foods cooked or processed at
temperatures above 212F (100C) may contain acrylamide.

dear Mr. Chandrasekaran,

Water boils at 100 degrees C or 212 F.

Surely the smoking point of ANY oil / fat will be > 100 C.

So are all fried foods are harmful with cancer producing Acrylamide?

I have read that using the same oil more than once for deep frying causes some chemical changes in it.

But surely processing food at < 100 C is impossible UNLESS we limit ourselves to simple boiling or steaming!

Lunar Eclipse

This evening at 0614 pm the Lunar Eclipse starts and ends at 0947 pm. The sloka
which is to be chanted by the people who are having Nakshtras Krithigai, Rohini,
Mrugarseersham, Hastham and Tiruvonam is given below:

Indro(a)nalo dandathar scha rushaha paasaayutho vaayu kubera eesaaha
Kurvanthu sarvam mama janmarsha raasisththa chandra graha dosha shaanthim

One has to write the above sloka in a new cloth or palm leaf with Kumkum or Pen
and should be tied in one of the parts of the body, i.e head or waist and chant
the sloka at least three times. After the lunar eclipse is over, either sloka written
cloth or palm leaf has to be handed over as dhanam to someone by chanting the
following sloka along with little raw rice and convenient Dhakshina.

Mama janmarsha somoparag prayuktha dosha parihaarartha idham hiranyam thandula dhanyam cha sampradhadhe

If it affects the children below 16 years, parents either father or mother can chant the sloka.

As regards tharpanam can be done after 0828 pm but before 0947 pm.

You are probably right. Not all potato chips are made like Pringles. Other potato chips are made from 100% potato. In addition to fried chips you can buy baked chips.
Any thing and every thing in this universe causes cancer, including the SUN. Even if you lived on air & water you can die of cancer. Now that you scared us all from eating Pringle, what else you can dig up.

I read an interesting piece of information given hereunder, about the harmful effects of French fries and Potato Chips in an article in a medical website.

"It is theoretically possible to create a more "healthy" French fry if you cook it in a healthy fat like virgin coconut oil. Due to its high saturated fat content, coconut oil is extremely stable and is not damaged by the high temperatures of cooking. This is why coconut oil should be the only oil you use to cook with".

All these years, as per the information I had gathered, I was of the impression that Coconut oil is harmful to heart.

i dont know about all you guys.

in the 1960s, 70s, the newly emerging ambika appalam stores of mylapore, used to sell, those home made fried fresh potato chips, sprinkled with fresh molaga podi. used to water our eyes, and burn our tongue. but sheer pleasure.

just recently i go there. i missed those chips, if it was there, for prominently displayed are the lays chips, same yellow packaging like here in toronto, and same mass produced flavours, ...

sad.

By oversight, lunar eclipse got into the potato chips; it was to be

I am reminded of a real life incident.
