<Edtd. - No room for proposing any violence here - please be careful - KRS> Not intended to be a joke.

:hail:

I feel we are making a mistaken judgment here. Pongal is a celebration for rich harvest to be made by the real farmers who toil on the farmlands and produce food. Today, the very basis of agriculture has become so twisted that the benefits of farm production go to every middleman but the actual producer is not benefited much. Therefore, this celebration should be done by all those agricultural producers only; consumers like us need not celebrate, because even if there is complete famine in India, we will pay and buy Chinese and other rice, milk and curds, at enormous prices!

Sri.Iyyarooraan, Greetings.

Pongal is not just a உழவர் திருநாள், but it is தமிழர் திருநாள். It is celebrated, coinciding with winter solstice, mostly amoung Tamizh persons all over the world. <Edtd - KRS>

Most of the farm workers do not own any land either. So, owning land is not the criteria for celebrations. Although a Wiki link about 'Pongal" may not be too appropriate in a forum of Tamizh persons, I do think such a link would help after reading some of the messages. Thai Pongal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cheers!

I agree every Tamil celebrates Pongal. This is also known as Makara Sankaraanthi all over India. The offerings to Sun god is significant becos he is life (and food) giver. But the pride and happiness of the tiller, farmer and the fields owners are a level above. Regards.
