Planning Of Academic courses for Teacher education

I found how planning for course in teacher education works in practise.

In national capital, They felt that to meet the need for Teachers where there is a shortage , more colleges affiliated to university should start courses for training teachers. 4 year

programmes after 12th standard were started in many colleges. The existing one year program after graduation in the university for teachers training was made two years. All this got done without thinking of

infrastructure in colleges or university. Firstly the academic staff was to be recruited. Since there were long winding regular procedures, an adhoc method was folowed due to

urgency to select some. . Naturally what got recruited was not upto the mark. When course after graduation made two years instead of one , all the good prospective students

preferred to join other courses giving the course a miss.So what was available for admission to the course was disappointing When they started the admission

process, they suddenly found that that they did not have classrooms, hostels and other infrastructure as the number of students would double[ ist yr and 2 yr]. so being

practical people, they cut the intake for each year to half. After admissions , suddenly they found that since the number of students had become half, in some

subjects offered as option teachers could not get students to study . So there is student- teacher mismatch .Interest of students and proficiency of teachers do not match

. So such issues continue merrily with adhoc solutions to every problem . The lucky few who got admitted were given hostel

accomodation and subsidised meals and ample freedom to prepare for national competitive exam instead of teacher training.lol
