Whenever families plan to undertake pilgrimage to various temples in Tamil Nadu , the first question that arises in their mind is where to stay safely and conveniently at reasonable price with good hygenic food. Based on my personal experience, I would strongly recommend ’Hotel TamilNadu’ run by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. It has a chain of 22 hotels in 19 cities and towns within the state , of which attest 8 can be considered as pilgrim centres with temples within and around the towns where the hotel is located. The rest are tourist spots like Ooty or Kodaikanal or Kanyakumari and business centres like Coimbatore.
The pilgrim centres where Hotel TamilNadu is located are Kancheepuram ( very near Kamatchi Amman temple), Madurai ( Two hotels , one is near Meenakshi Amman temple and another bigger and better one on Azhagar Koil Street), Rameswaram ( right on the seashore and near the Agnitheertham ) , Thanjavur ( big heritage type hotel near Railway station), Thiruvannamalai ( near Ramanashram), Thirukadaiyur ( on the main road - one side Amrita kateshwar temple within 2 kms and on the other side 12 kms away is Thirunallar Saniswarar temple ) Tiruchirapalli ( near central bus stand) and Tiruchendur ( on the seashore , near the Murugan Temple ).
All the hotels are very well maintained, very clean and food is excellent at very reasonable price. Food is vegetarian in all temple towns , but in other places both vegetarian and non vegetarian food is served. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I have stayed in 8 of their hotels multiple times and was satisfied with their service and food. The prices are very reasonable and includes a sumptuous breakfast. Senior citizens ( above the age of 60 years) are given 20% discount on room price . If booking is done online , then the discount can be collected at the time of checkout at the hotels. If booking is done at their office in Chennai or other cities where TTDC has offices, then discount is given at the tome of booking itself. Online booking is very convenient and reservation confirmation is immediately available for us to plan our trip accordingly. 24 hour check in - check out ( 10 am to 10 am ) is available at all hotels except Thirukadaiyur where it is 3pm - 3 pm.
it is advisable to book directly at TTDC website ( www.ttdconline.com ) after registering one time your user ID and password. It is NOT advisable to book through commercial sites like booking.com, agoda.com or make my trip.com where one cannot be sure of room confirmation.
