A person's personal life is not really to be judged..I think Padma Lakshmi is a woman who dares to be herself..she gives a damn of what society expects her to be.

I wish her all the best in her new relationship with Richard Gere even though I feel she and Shashi Tharoor make a good pair.

I admire her for keeping a baby when she was not married to the father of the child..she values a life of a child.

In my years as doctor I have seen many so called good character traditional woman married with all signs and symbols of marriage just go in for abortions when they feel they are not yet ready for another child.

I have such a tough time explaining to my married patients that I do not do abortions in my clinic and try to convince them to keep their own baby..they just dont seem to value human life.

So that way I admire Padma..she did not resort to abortion like so many married women do even in ever so conservative India..Padma....a fiercely brave woman who is afraid of no one..she is not an insult ..she is after all Padma Parvati Lakshmi..she has everything...beauty,talent,brains,success and money.

I love her toned body and perfect abdomen...will work out more in the gym..need to look like Padma!

BTW I cant understand that when people in India can admire and be crazy for Hema Malini who married a married man..made a mockery of religion by converting to Islam just for marriage purposes but acts like a keeper of Hindu culture!LOL Why cant anyone admire Padma? Isnt Padma at least honest?

excellent post.
puts it better perspective.

PL being honest ,bringing up a child and not aborting like many.

being a successful career woman and excelling in various fields modelling , travel documentary star , food item TV host etc.

when you are in a liberal society , conventional indian views of morality do not apply . I am sure many TB girls in US universities and working would have a more liberal views on pre marital physical relationships

even in India , JNU has condom machines for students .even in Premier B schools , many date and get into relationships .

chetan bhagat based on his experience , described pre marital physical relationship of TB girl

with a punjabi boy in novel two states, . he was hauled over the coals by TB girls and TB

parents at a promotional event in chennai couple of years back.
The film also depicted this .he should know . the novel is semi auto biographical. the meaning of

intimate relationships has undergone a big change . children are redefining them. no point in

closing our eyes and say every thing is honky dory

If we read about Padma's childhood we can understand why she seems to be looking for much older men in her life.

Her parent's divorced when she was 1 year old.A young girl without her own father around could grow up to be very insecure and might seek many partners in life.

Her father has a daughter with another wife and her father gave up his job to concentrate on his second daughters dance career which made Padma feel very bad that that her father cared more for his other daughter.

So please try to understand that her changing partners is actually seeking a father figure sorts who can care and love her. Name me one good reason other wise she found Salman Rushdie attractive enough to marry? Cos she was looking for a father figure.

I feel a bit sad for her that she hasn't found true love yet..may be we can all wish her happiness that she finds the man who can truly love her forever.

do not talk about father figures . Tamil mamas like PJ sir in US would be tempted .

Vaithehi has been missing in action from Forum for some 1 week I think?

I wish she would share her opinion about Padma Lakshmi in this thread.

I have noted that Indian males and females have a tough time to imagine that a female can be in charge of her own life and also be experimental with her sexuality.

That is why many find Padma Lakshmi not someone they would be very proud of!

Why these double standards?

If there was a male version of PL I am sure many men would want to be in his place and actually feel proud that a potent male is walking the earth and some might start worshiping the ground the male walked!LOL

I was thinking if just say Padma was a daughter or a female relative of mine..how would I react?

The answer is..if a person is our own blood we would not want to judge them in anyway and be fiercely protective of them and will not want to find fault with any of their actions.

When the person is not our relative only then tongues start to wag.

If PL were my sibling or a daughter I will just bless her to be happy cos she is just living the life she carved for herself and surely I will want her to stay in the west which is less judgmental than the east.

Note this post of mine is not to encourage any sort of behavior that might not go down too well with any conservative person but all I want to convey is everyone has the right to live the way that suits them best cos Padma is not telling anyone "hey girls ditch your conservative style and be like me" she is just living her own life and thats her birth right.

Its just that she is a celebrity and the camera focuses on her private life..for all you know any unassuming person could have had more lovers than we can count!LOL
