There are divergent views on whether the US Ambassador to India -Nancy Powell has actually resigned or retired?

Is her quitting to do with the failed meeting with Narendra Modi!

Obviously with Modi's ascendancy, US wants to mend its fences with the BJP's PM candidate!

There is another contrarian view that she was booted out as she could not lobby well with India on behalf of the Nuclear lobby/ suppliers! Is this the real reason for her so called retirement (?)

Reports talk about the mishandling of kobragade affair; since devyani was the acting ambassador when she was arrested, the indian govt should have asked US to withdraw their ambassador inder threat of reciprocal arrest. China would have taken such a step. Powel turned the other way when her staff and security officer clandestinely smuggled out maid's family - express visa, all expenses paid and the lot.

Modi did the right thing when Powell wanted to meet him unofficially in delhi. She was to take centre's permission, venue to be CM's office in gandhinagar and an agenda for the meeting. She had to comply with some reluctance. She proved her neutrality and met some small time congress leaders from gujarat.
