Mantralayam.

Well friends,

*Made a short trip to *Mantralaym* to have the darshan of the Jeeva Samadhi of Swami Raghavendra.
(c.1595–c.1671).
Of course, you are well aware of him and his powers/ Miracles etc.

He was also an erudite philosopher/ scholar of Dwaitya ( dualism - jeevathma and Paramathma are two different ) stream of Vedanta . A devotee of Lord Krishna & Anjaneyar.

*Coming to Micro / travel details:*

It's around 550 Kms from Chennai.

Nearest Airport is Hyderabad. 250 kms.

From Chennai, best to take the train route.

Mantralaym Road is the rail head. It's between Guntakkal and Raichur. It's on Chennai Mumbai route.

We took the Dadar express starting from Egmore @ 6.45 AM. That is the fastest train. It reaches around 3.30 PM ( 9 hours run) Mantralaym Rd. The train has a pantry car.

The Mantralayam village is around 16 kms from the station. It's in Karnool dt .AP.

It's bordering AP & Karnataka. Other side of the Tunga Bhadra river is Karnataka, while the village itself is in AP. People speak both Telugu & Kannada.

Tamil, Hindi - No .

Share Autos and Taxis are available at the station. You can hire the full share Auto also for comfort, if taxi not available.

We took a pre arranged Taxi, which was waiting for us.

One Mr. Kasim's vehicle. His cell 9885249297 .

He also dropped us back the next day.

We had booked Accomodation thru Devasthanam web site. On line booking available . The site id is given at the end. AC cottages are around 1200/ per day.

No provision for hot water in the bathroom. You need to buy hot water for bath. Per pot 20 rs. Available in the mornings.

The village is in Rayalseema area of AP . Dry belt. Scorching sun.

But as Mantralaym village is located adjacent to Thunga Bhadra river, I trust water won't be an issue here .

From the cottage/ room , the Temple / Brindavanam is very near. Easily walkable.

Temple timings are
6 to 12 & 5 to 9.

Free darshan / Seva darshan are available.

It's not like Tirupathi. Even free Darshan you can get in 30 minutes.

So, you can again and again have darshan of the Jeeva Samadhi.

There is a VVIP enclosure. This takes you nearest to the Samadhi. Tks to benevolence of my friend with whom I went, I became a VVIP (!) and had the opportunity to have a close by Darshan.

But even Seva/ Free Darshan are also not far . Quite close by. Can hve a good view.
There is no need for any reference/ recommendations etc.

Ofcourse, for the VVIP enclosure you need to be a VVIP or to get reference from a VVIP connected to temple / Govt.

Daily evening 7 PM there is Chariot procession. It's considered that Swami Raghavendra was
Bhaktha Prahalatha in the earlier birth.

Hence, Bhaktha Prahalatha idol is taken around in the Chariot.

The Chariot goes around the outer Praharam.

Even the Pada Puja, Unjal Seva ( both in the morning )are all performed only to this idol.

There is a shrine for Anjaneyar exactly opposite the Samadhi.

One more Sannadhi is for the Grama devata. An Amman.

There is a Panchmuki Anjaneyar Temple near by ( 20 Kms) where Swamiji had his Ashram. He lived in this place for over 12 years.

That is the only other place of interest / pilgrimage in the neighborhood.

Dress code :

It's very important. Like in Kerala, for men Mel Vastram not allowed ( even Banians are to be removed ) .

For the VVIP enclosure women also should be in Saree.

As u all may be aware, Swamiji was born in Bhuvanagiri , TN.

Food :

Both at noon and in the evening, free meals is provided in the temple. Say around 11.30 in the morning and 7.30 in the evening. The meals served is very fresh. Straight from the oven. Rice, Sambar, Rasam and curd rice are served.

For Brahmins, they hve separate enclosure though the food is the same. It's on GF & for others it's on FF.

They come around with a plate to receive Voluntary donations towards meals, while we dine. Purely voluntary .

It's a simple Satvik meals served on Plantain leaf.

But while they serve water , they don't provide Glass/ Tumblr. Better carry your bottled water or take a Tumblr on refundable deposit of Rs 10/- basis, which provision is available in the dining hall itself.

Largely people sit on the floor, cross legged to dine, in the tradional way . A few Tables with chairs are also provided for those who are unable to sit on the floor.

There are Udupi hotels also near by.

Morning coffee/ tea available from street vendors from 4 AM onwards .

Numerous petty shops selling the Tourists needs like Bottled water.

But for this, it's a very small village.

You can also have food at "Mami mess". The Food is Good. We got it packed for the return journey, as we wanted to avoid Pantry car food. The Mami mess # is 9989510745 .

The Tunga Bhadra river ( which flows just behind the temple) had water only in Patches. Almost stagnant water. This is the position in January itself despite good rains last season .

We left the next day thru again Kasim. 24 hours at Mantralaym. We took the Chennai mail which comes there at 3.30 PM.

Arrived next day morning 3.30 at Central station.

A day's trip is sufficient for the Brindavanam.

If you wish to see the Panchmuki Anjaneyar, then probably you need one more day.

It was a highly fulfilling trip. The Brindavanam Complex is well maintained. Neat and clean . Good to sit and meditate in an available enclosure in front of the Samadhi.

OM Shree Raghavendraya Namaha!
