We have already garnered Rs 3.0 Lacs crores in Coal mines & spectrum licensing in the past 1 month..On the 5th day of coal ausction GOI got Rs 2.07 lac crores...So the loss of Rs 1.86 lac crores shared by ex CAG Vinod Rai in the Coal licenses is after all true! Now the long arm of law should catch up with all the scoundrels who have caused this loss to the exchequer!

Just In: Former prime minister Manmohan Singh has been summoned as an accused by a special court in a coal scam case.

Manmohan Singh summoned as accused in coal scam case

Manmohan singh and kapil sibal are now blaming the industrialista for not electing a sonia led government; they would have again got all the coal and spectrum licences for a nominal sum to the benefit of both.

All enquiries cbi cases chargesheets etc., in all fields should be completed and persons sentenced before the end of this year. Otherwise no use. See how lallu now? Getting bail immedistely after court order is ridiculous. Or they enter hospital under chestpain?
Surte we can bring the country to the forefront if sri modi applies thandam rule(sama petha thandam)

An old cartoon revisited!

Some people say that MMS is innocent...He did not take a single paisa..If that is true let him spill the beans..who cheated the country?...Also is he not accountable as he was the Coal Minister when the scam took place?

How does some people know that Manmohan has not taken any bribe money & it is touted in all media?. Are they Gods?

Corruption is not defined by whether the person involved has taken money, but has he been party to corrupt practices. So Manmohan should be put in Tihar jail for 2 yrs like all the South Indians who were put in Jail without even a trail.

Since he is a North Indian, the Supreme Court with its distinct Anti-south bias, will pass some time-pass preaching about morality in public office & let him off!! You will see, how they will white wash such a mega scam but they will continue to put south Indians in Jail or deny them bail.

Astonishing !!

How about Sonia the imperious empress...Why is there not a single case against her for all the mega 2G & Coal scams....Why is she not targeted..Who is protecting her??

Subramanian swamy has said that singh should turn approver, spill the beans and seek clemency. It is now certain that congress party and sonia will not support him. Better to wait, as there is many a slip between the cup and the lip - he may escape or become senile to escape punishment, when hearing ends in a few years time.

She is like karuna, no nailable evidence - papres, file notings, signature, recorded conversations. All instructions were conveyed by her coterie, and not by her directly.

Today Congress has seen this as an opportune moment to whip up emotions..Rails stopped in UP...Sonia leading a protest match to MMS residence..More tamasha in store

We all now know that corruption charges are hedges to protect from one another. Law is applicable to sons of the soil and not to them who have become sons-in-law - all politicians.

From the way MMSingh has conducted himself in the Government so far and his background, I do not think he could have gained anything personally. The Government's decision making processes are notoriously vague. But every buck stops with the Chief Executive just because there is no more space for the buck to move up. Thus MMS has to own up the vicarious and constructive responsibility for whatever happened as the PM as well as the Coal Minister at the relevant time. It is his misfortune that he accepted the PM post offered by Congress. That one blunder will haunt him throughout his life.

I would prefer a private settlement of the issue by BJP and MMS (not involving Congress) so that the future PMs do not have to always keep a wary watch over their shoulders. It is a position where decisions (good or bad) have to be taken as nothing can be postponed to the next hour. As long as it is clear that MMS has not benefited personally in any way, BJP should show magnanimity and let him off the hook. This they should do without asking for a quid pro quo. That would do a lot of good to the nation. The people involved in this exercise should swear to secrecy.

I am reminded of the special group of experts who analysed on a real-time, on going basis every decision, every step, every movement, every expression, every thought process that crossed the mind and every behavioral aspect of John F. Kennedy at the historic moment when he took the momentous decision on Bay of Pig confrontation with an unpredictable nuclear armed Soviet Union. The group recorded in minutest detail all the details just for the benefit of the posterity. What was staring at Kennedy was a nuclear holocaust without adequate time for a reprisal. As he grappled with the uncertainties and dangers and was cracking, as the leader he remained terribly alone at that level. And I have only appreciation for the thoughtful Americans . Can we Indians rise above our bitter wrangling and political one-up-man-ship to take a broader view in the interest of the institution called PM? This is a million dollar question. If BJP does it I will be proud of being an Indian.

Shri Vaagmiji,

Why should we come to a conclusion that MMS is not corrupt..After all having taken the responsibility of Prime Ministership, he should not have been a dumb doll to all that was hanky panky..He could have voiced his concern, opinion in various forums about the machinations of Sonia and her coterie..He has lost his dignity now

vganeji,

The point is not whether we conclude anything or not.

Did MMS gain anything personally? Did he amass wealth(a la some TN leaders) using his position for himself or his family? These are the questions which need to be considered. If the answer is yes (after the Govt. finding the truth through its own investigating mechanism which is quite resourceful) he may be left to face the trial. If he has been "done in" by a powerful political leadership, or has been let down by a collaborating and cunning bureaucracy he deserves understanding and sympathy - not because he is MMS but because he had been the PM of India. Democratic Institutions are indeed holy cows. It is better to leave them that way as otherwise every such institution will be slowly and stealthily undermined until anarchy sets in ultimately. This is my argument.

And let us not forget that MMS was a political light weight when he was pitchforked to the position of PM of India. PVN who also was a political light weight and who became the PM was a different kind of personality. He, even though a lame duck PM achieved much more for the nation than any other PM could. He too faced his share of public litigation and came out of all of them unblemished. He was incidentally a brahmin. LOL.

If MMS has amassed wealth either for himself or his relatives he deserves to be punished severely so that it becomes an unforgettable example for anyone in future coming to the position of PM. Along with him all the manipulators(the assistants, section officers, under secretaries, joint secretaries and secretaries and Directors etc., in the Govt., and all the businessmen who benefited from the deals)) who led him into that should go to jail.

But anti corruption is clear in this issue - whether any one personally gains or not, he is guilty if he facilitates corrupt practices on issues he is directly involved. Manmohan will not pass this test. He is guilty of allowing PMO to take files to sonia gandhi, and approve decisions taken by her as a proxy.

If only the judiciary becomes more active and drives the cases to a conclusion is a decent span of time, all corruption cases will lose their relevance and bite.

Dr Manmohan Singh is an honest person. No one can doubt his ability or sincerity. But he is a hapless victim
of circumstances. In fact his party used him. Being an ex-bureaucrat, he seems to have gone by the orders of his political bosses. Since the issue is under Judicial scrutiny, we cannot discuss about the Coal Scam. Let us wait for
the outcome of the legal verdict before commenting.

Sir, we need new definition for honesty. I feel judgement will not come in his life time. If delivered in next ten years, it will be deemed vendetta, or if UPA comes to power in future, cases will be buried in 'pudaikuzhi', no one will even venture to jump in to dig it out.
