Namasthe,

Few days back we have celebrated our mother's 1st year ceremony at our place as per the instruction given by the Brohith.

The very next day another brohith came and told us that we have to go to Rameswaram first and from there to Kasi again come back to Rameswaram and to perform the same ceremonies there also. Then only the sole will rest in peace.

Is it must to visit Rameswaram, Kasi & Rameswaram and to perform srardhams in both the places ?

Kindly advice.

Namasthe.

Rameswaram - Kasi -Rameswaram trip could be done later. In fact many people do it in stages. Rameswaram first, then Kasi and then again to Rameswaram with a gap in between of several years.

Now because people have more money at their disposal and the trips do not take long, the Sasthirigal seem to hurry up people.

Yes. you should perform Shraddham at Rameswarm, Kasi and Gaya. But during your life time. No hurry.

You can confirm this by asking the elders around you.

Do not worry. Your mother will Bless you. Mother's Blessings are not subject to conditions. Our ancestors seek our welfare.

Dear Sirs,
Namaskarams and many thanks for your kind advise.
It is very important and useful information.

With very best regards
S Chandrasekaran/CBE

Dear Chandrasekaran,

You can refer another thread posted by Venkat2206 about the Srartham at Rameswaram. There are details and various contact numbers given in the thread.

After performing Srarthan at Rameswaram we need to collect sand from there to be immersed in Kasi. Normal saying is once you decide you should do it at the earliest at Rameswaram.

Dear Chandrasekaran,

I do not think our smritis prescribe this Rameswaram-Kasi-Rameswaram (RKR) visits, etc., in order that the souls of our departed elders/parents "will rest in peace". According to the Sastras the souls of the women, who have left this world are treated slightly differently from those of the males; no "Riks" are chanted while giving sesamum and water during tarpanam, as you might have seen. The place of women - even those who have gone to the pitruloka - is always as the spouse of one's father, grandfather, great grandfather, etc. So, if your father is alive, I think there is no question of your doing the RKR pilgrimage.

Even if one's father and mother have passed away, the vast majority of TBS did not (and could not afford to) do the RKR till recent times when our people have become generally wealthy. The purohits have now linkages with pilgrimage agencies, purohits at Rameswaram, Kasi etc., and may be canvassing you as a possible customer. If you would like to do all these things, please go ahead and do. As another member has remarked, the general belief is that if one decides to go to Rameswaram that should be done as early as possible.

Dear Chandrasekaran,

As a first step of RKR trip - we - five brothers with spouses and three sisters completed the Rameswaram trip. Really a wonderful expericne. You can read further details about our trip under a separate thread "Rituals at Rameswaram". If you any assistance / contact details for your Rameswaram trip I will be too happy to provide the same.
