Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Swami temple is located in Kadiri; Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh state in India. According to Hindu Mythology Lord Narsimha emerged as Swayambhu from roots of Kadiri tree to assassin Hirankashyap. Idol of Lord Narsimha oozes sweat after daily sacred bath or Abhishek which is a distinct quality of this idol. This pilgrimage is a hub for Hindu devotees. Festival is celebrated with great pomp and shows in Kadiri every year.


The place is named Kadiri after Lord Lakshmi Narsimha swami who emanated from Kadiri tree. Kadiri refers to Canary wood or Indian Mulberry. The place is famous for its jasmine flowers and vermillion silk which is used in Handloom silk Saris of Andhra Pradesh.


History



According to the legend of Hindu mythology Prahalad was a devotee of lord Vishnu and due to the father Hirankashyap who consider himself equivalent to god tortured him. Lord Narsimha swami who one among 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu with body of human and face of lion, assassinated Hirankashyap and freed his devotee Prahalad from all tortures. After killing Hirankashyap Lord Lakshmi Narsimha decided to settle in Kadiri. It is also believed that the place Kadiri got its name due to a hill having imprints of Lord Vishnu. Adri means the footprints and Kha refers to Lord Vishnu. Also it is believed that Lord Vishnu has emerged from Nadira tree to reveal his Narsimha avatar to a devotee who did sacrament under the tree for many years to see his avatar. All the legends of Narsimha swami and Kadiri dates back to Tretayug.


Architecture



The temple of Narsimha swami was built during the period of Rayalusis. The specialty of idol of lord Narsimha swami is keep sweating after daily sacred bath or Abhishekam. The idol of lord Narsimha swami in temple has eight hands and lion face, killing Hirankashyapa and Prahlada standing behind with his folded hands. The idol potrays entire mythological story. The temple is spread in a vast area covered with beautiful idols all around. Areas like Grabhgriha and Mukh Mandapam is an example of legendary architectural works of Tretayug. Garbgriha is decorated beautifully with four Lions in corner. There are four entrances to the temple, among which the Eastern gate is the main entrance built by Harihararaya. On the eastern ghats entrance one can see idol of Anjaneeyaswami. Lotus shaped dias has imaged of Narsimha swami and behind it there is a standing posture of Prahlada and Anjneya near the main entrance gate. The beautiful idol Prahladanugrah Murti of deity with four hands and goddess Lakshmi is placed at another temple in campus.

Astonishingly, after the daily abhishekham is performed, the Murthy of the Lord oozes sweat even after being repeatedly wiped off by the Archakas here

How To Reac



Kadiri is accessible by railways, roadways and airways. It is situated 92kms away from Anantpur, thus one can reach here through roadways from Anantpur. Puttaparthi is also nearest airport to Kadiri. Kadiri is connected to national highway of Anantpur- Chennai i.e. NH205 connecting Chennai, Banglore and Hyderabad.

Accommodation at reasonable rates is available in temple premises and is managed by temple administration. The rates start from nominal rate of Rs 100/-.and both AC and NON AC rooms are available.
