Not at all. Notby any stretch of imagination I am a Bush supporter. However Obama has notdelivered in the last 6 yrs, the entire political system is gridlocked. Yes,you can blame the republicans; however Obama shares the blame for not leading& building a consensus.

Whether it is presidentor CEO, you need someone who can deliver results – thats what matters at theend – It is all about competence & delivery of the goods to the people!

The private water tanker mafia in collusion with the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials are raking in ‘moolah’ since the day Delhi went to polls, fearing the scenario would change if the Aam Aadmi Party comes to power. Although the racket was silent for a few months, as they are usually active during summers, but this time, they have left no stone unturned during winters too.


The water mafia created ‘ artificial water crisis’ situation in various posh colonies the day Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced 700 litres of free water per day to each household in the city.


The illegal business is run by people who are particularly targeting areas in the Capital that are let down by the DJB. People in ‘ artificially parched’ localities now pay anything between Rs 800 and Rs 1,500 for 1,000 litres of water.


Earlier, they used to pay somewhere between Rs 400 to Rs 800.


For a 5,000-litre tanker, they shell out around Rs 3,000, and for a 12,000-litre tanker, between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000.


Establishments such as hotels and hospitals go for bigger tankers, which have a capacity of 24,000 litres, paying around Rs 10,000. “These prices keep fluctuating. As demand goes up, so do their charges,” said Vijay Ojha, a resident of Kalkaji.


More than 2,000 private tankers draw water from tubewells and the DJB connection to sell to residential localities and industries at exorbitant rates. Their business is pegged at Rs 400 crore annually.

According to some there is enough for all. . there is supply-demand mismatch in many zones . specially in south delhi vasanth kunj,defence colony,lajpat nagar , it is less than 20kl per month for most homes. Tankers take most of their water from Jal board lines to supply in posh high demand colonies to people who can afford to pay. for hotels also the same logic applies. I have no sympathy for water guzzlers. they might be watering the lawns with the tanker supplies. that is not to say the tanker mafia actions are desirable. hope AAP cracks down on them

Yes I remember during an informal discussion with some friends of mine 10 years back with regard to solving Chennai's water crisis through desalination of sea water , one person who was close to a Political Bigwig in Chennai said it will never be allowed as they are making a huge profit supplying water through tanker lorries .

it is an interesting view point. as it stands AK has milked the discontent with the ruling class and the corrupt politicians and with catchy election promises has managed to get more than expected success.he suddenly found himself in drivers seat . he has no worthwhile economic philosophy. he has talked vaguely of gandhi,nehru,,shastri and what they stood for. he might get a larger role in national politics after loksabha election and may play a prominent role in new govt at the centre after 2014 elections. A large number of people are flocking to him as he appears to be the best bet for them for loksabha seat. you find assorted industrialists,business executives ,civil servants,educated youngsters.women with political ambitions,socialists,film stars ,poor autorickshaw drivers,journalists joining the band wagons as he says everyone is welcome.Since he is keeping a open house with a clean image and no past baggage to carry ,he is an attractive option and as a consequence he might get propelled to a higher position . where it will lead to and what is the end is anybodys guess. who knows some think tank will chalk out a economic programme which he can adopt. if he gets leftists and socialists in his circle of advisors ,it will be good for the countrys poor . we need an alternate program to manmohanomics

Being not used to reading about Indian politics for decades and specifically not being familiar with columnists like Ravi Shankar , reading this piece led me to think this columnist is either confused or has an agenda or both.

AK is probably not competent in running a Government operations and is probably learning. If he already acted in a manner that is hypocritical to his words or words of his party that would be cause for immediate concern.

Vision, mission etc are all vague words for now until the cancer of corruption is addressed. There is no need to spell out any vision how the corruption would be rooted out which is spread all over like stage 3 or 4 levels for a cancer patient. It had taken decades to reach the current state.

Metaphorically there are not always right medicines but only action via a treatment plan for many cancer patients and the plan itself is evolved based on results observed. One cannot expect improvements overnight either.

Let us give AK and AAP a chance to 'do something' over the next x months without assigning motives to every action or lack of action. Let them learn to appreciate what they are facing. After a year it will be useful to measure progress.

I agree too early to judge AAP He has announced his intention to contest loksabha seats in TN. People tired of dravidian caste politics have an alternative. other then NOTA. will tamil brahmins,dalits,adidravidas ,minorities along with youth and women get over their caste issues, rise to the occasion and bring in an alternative to caste and identity poltics in TN

AAP seeks to follow the same model of identity politics much like most other political parties.

Keep in mind that there are several colleges in Delhi university that are fully funded by the central government and so people all over India should have the right to have access to these colleges. What they are doing is unconscionable. They are not proving to be any different from the Shiv Sena, MNS and Marathi manoos on this issue. They want to shower sops on the delhi residents so that they will vote for them again in LS elections. But they have no problems in restricting the legitimate rights of people from other parts of the country, especially from underdeveloped regions where such centrally funded universities are not available.

Every day, they are proving they are not different from the other bunch of power hungry politicians!

you are correct. delhi university is a central univ. others have a right. but where do delhi people go for college education ? in chennai they have a small outside state quota.delhi residents are forced to send their children to other states for higher education.how many can afford this.Education is a scarce resource.delhi cannot solve the problems of northeast or backward bihar or chattisgarh or such states. centre and state govts should set up their own univ and not live on others.
thers is power vacuum in states like Haryana .In delhi BSP with 15percent vote share came down to 1 percent after the elections. Another party like AAP in 2 party states will put national parties on notice bring about a change in their loftier than

delhi people are already ineligible in other states due to reservation policy and insistence on knowledge of local language for admissions . only an elite few send children to expensive self financing colleges. where do poor delhi people go.
