Asia's largest IT services providers have lost business as their corporate customers reined in spending.

[h=2]Highlights[/h]

  1. Employees need to bring out their best to survive, Infosys CEO said
  2. Wipro chief Azim Premji cited recent developments as a huge risk
  3. Indian IT firms have been hit by swings in UK, US markets

The leaders of two of India's largest technology services companies, Infosys Ltd. and Wipro Ltd., have warned employees that their industry faced a grave threat from rising political and economic conflict around the world.

Employees need to innovate and bring out their best to survive, Infosys Chief Executive Officer Vishal Sikka said in a year-end note to staff. In a separate memo, Wipro Chairman Azim Premji identified recent political and social developments as a huge risk to a globalized industry like IT services, though he didn't mention specific issues.

Asia's largest providers of IT services, which include leader Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., have lost business as their corporate customers reined in spending. They've been buffeted by macroeconomic swings in the two largest markets of Britain and the U.S., together accounting for about four-fifths of revenues in India's $108-billion IT services export industry. Britain's planned exit from the European Union cast uncertainty over the outlook for IT spending, while U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to choke the flow of overseas workers Wipro and Infosys rely on.

After years of stupendous growth, India's IT industry trade body Nasscom in November cut its revenue forecast for the current year.

"At a time when the world around us seems ever more influenced by the baser instincts and tendencies, we must bring the best of our intentions, and the best of our imagination, our knowledge and our conviction, to all that we do," Sikka wrote.

Premji said 2016 raised questions and obstacles which could not be ignored.

"These questions have arisen from developments in the political arena, from the fast-unfolding environmental crisis and from forces that want to shape the world into a place of exclusion, conflict and suspicion," Premji said in his memo.

Infosys' shares were down 1.4 percent at 11:33 a.m. on Tuesday. Wipro and Tata were mostly unchanged.

Our IT barons would raise the war bogey if their incomes are hurt.

They are the biggest thugs in india and should be put behind bars for the inhuman conditions in IT sector.

The IT industry does not have self regulation and running amok.

Their working practices combine the worst of MNC culture and indian babudom.

Their bad practice includes disturbing employees on weekends, making employees stay until boss leaves office, making most work 10-12 hours a day[virtual jail]

Their companies are no better than sweat shops with no labour laws.

If at all , one has to work in IT , best choose a company abroad, with regular 36 hour 9-5 weekdays, weekends off

Not True sir! exaggerated view point sir. I think you have blown it out of proportion sir!

During Quarter Ends they indeed work extra hours and they are also heftily paid for that. Otherwise they are cool. They work only 5 days (40 hours) a week.

Well Trump is going to hammer the practice of labor arbitrage. The IT shops have to provide value, not just compete on price.

But Krishji, working condition in IT shops is not really that bad. Otherwise the IT people would have chosen to become farmers.

Have you wondered why IT professionals work in second afternoon shift starting at 1pm.

They can go home by 9pm.

Those in other shift are forced to stay extra as it is day time when shift ends.

Only bachelors wanting free lunch opt for morning shifts.

The income of indian IT companies depend not only on financial arbitrage but misuse of engineers with a degree for work which can be done lesser qualified persons.

Many companies after recruitment in colleges keep the prospective employees waiting upto october[about six months] for joining .Many end up on the bench for a few

months. They are tied with unreasonable bonds.

Some are booked to multiple jobs inflating the work hours to earn more money for the company-This is a very common practice .

Most see escape route in foreign assignment as a passport to US and other countries.

At the first available oppurtunity, vanish there to another company with better payments and work hours.

Biswaji,
Becoming a farmer on paper with some minor land holding is the best thing to happen to anyone in india.

You know kisan loans at low interest which are given by govt are easy to get.

One can take them and earn higher interest in any bank.

Farm incomes are not taxed.

Many use agriculture holdings to conceal black money .

Unreturned loans are normally written off with drought or elections aiding the process.

IT fellows are subject to maximum misuse. Some do work of good quality. Others only low level application programming or BPO work.

If people want financial arbitrage alone , why use IT people. One can speculate in foreign exchange markets . These IT workers deserve to be released from their

prisons.I hope Trump puts a stop to worker export or job outsourcing

There are few who are prone to come up with mostly exaggerated picture of minor things

While it is true that IT BPO industry faces top challenges, IT Techies know that there is nothing to worry... they can foresee new horizon...new opportunities in abundance..

There are resolutions to accelerate innovations, change and growth...sky is the limit.

Indian Techis are smart enough to grab the opportunity in new technologies ….like that of Automation, cloud and other new technologies to hit revenues of Indian IT companies. and it is always possible.

Let the Naysayers keep busy in spreading their exaggerated outated theories....

Our Techies are driven by positive spirit ... and know how to equip themselves ready to give their best for their survival and growth in the industry.

Hope the trend and budget will be favourable..

When an IT professional gets out of bond period and changes job to opt for MNCs their salaries shoot up by minimum 30%. But if the MNC is located in india, their slave

status continues. They continue to be over worked . But if they work for the same MNC in australia or singapore, with stricter labour laws, they behave differently . Life is

much better. But colour of skin matters in gulf or singapore. Professionals white skinned are put in managerial cadre much above indians who at best are in supervisory

positions reporting to the whites. The income difference is more than 30 to 40%.

Did you see the salaries of IT folks in Flipkart..Youngsters in the 30's are crorepathis & a couple of them are earning above Rs 10 crores per annum...I checked their qualification of the ones earning over Rs 10 crores ...They are just Computer Engg graduates from IIT's or University of Mumbai or Visweswaraya tech university

Sir,

The shift is based on the country of origin of client; USA, UK, Canada, Australia etc.

The UK Projects usually work when it is 9 am to 5 pm British Time which coincides with GMT during Standard Time. IST is 5 and half hour ahead of UK Time, hence Noon Shift for UK Projects.

Likewise it is night shift for US/Canada projects and Early Morning Shift for Australian projects.

Furthermore the Shift Time expedites by 1 hour during Daylight Savings Time.

The Shift is decided as per requirement and as per Theater (EMEA, USAI, APJ, Emerging Markets etc) requirements.

There are many complications involved.

While what you say is true of some projects depending on its nature, it is not always true

AS regards free lunch, some IT Cos provide free, while others provide at subsidized cost through hired vendors within their campus.

If free, it is free in all shifts.

It is hefty Shift Allowances that are an incentive and not food, for shifts.
