A very interesting find! Andhra&Karnataka, with Gujarat, with their apparent 'development' record in recent times, are not so well placed when one looks at deprivations: the North and the NorthEast(not surprising?) are poverty ridden. And, Kerala&Goa, with TamilNad, are not so bad, relatively -- literacy, and not 'affluence' the reason? Or, is it the ready willingness to accept employment abroad and travel away from home? Punjab&Himachal are evidence of agriculture, farms and willingness to work in the fields, and traditional expertise therein, helping in reducing multidimensional poverty? one finding that should stand out, is: ".....the problem is not inadequacy of growth, but institutional inadequacy ......reluctance of the elite to address the inadequacies....": at this stage of our growth as a country, there is certainly not sufficient meaningful, positive participation from 'Indians' in NationBuilding. a visiting writer recently wrote that no one in India seems to be really bothered about India! -- JaiHind: rj
