Idol worship and Prayers !! - How did this evolve and its significance !!!

Idol worship and Prayers !! - How did this evolve and its significance !!!

In ancient times, people went though many many tough situations due to famine, constant wars, diseases, and innumerable death.

During these times of suffering and tribulations, they realised that some people were able to pull through seeming impossible situations when others died !!

So the question was what made these people heroes and how did they survive. In this search, they found out that a strong faith in God, in themselves, in their families is the key reason for survival.

And an interesting thing is praying and asking for gods help made all the difference, by the act of prayer, and in its belief, they found solace. In extreme situations this is the life saver. By praying constantly and asking for help, with the unstinting belief that God will help me, their mind calmed down and was able to find solutions to seemingly impossible situations, and escape them to victory,

Apart from that, these people even in dire times, had a ritual of thanking God, thanking people, and looking forward to good times. They did not allow their mind to be overtaken by the emotions aka Satan !!!

In short the constant prayer and thanking God all through life, creates a Pavlovian condition in the mind that when ever a great problem arises, the mind does not allow the pressure to build up. It automatically turns the mind to prayer and a request for help, which calms the mind down and that things will change now due to this act of prayer and God will pull me through against all odds.

In the absence of such belief, the pressure of the extreme situation builds and leads to self harm and suicide. For eg, many atheists do not survive the situation. In concentration camps, the most religious Jews pulled though and lived to tell the tales.

So prayers are fundamental to humans and is a life saver through the tough time that most will face at some point in time !!

Now in times of trouble, it is extremely difficult to focus on anything and hence the need for a idol, neck chain, Kashi Kaire, etc..which helps the faithful to focus on and pray.

This "unflinching faith" in God has helped the faithful to survive extreme situations right through history as supported by numerous tales and legends.

And if this faith can move mountains, then there really has to be a higher power called God that guides our destiny !!!!

From this, the ritualism and prayers of Hinduism originates !!

Now do we need this in current times? - absolutely, the number of youngsters who suicide today are alarming and you can see the steady decline of the religion in all these areas !!

There you go folks, why prayers are so fundamental to our existence !!!

Ok...the act of Jauhar?
Jumping into fire to save one from a lustful invador....its suicide too isnt it?

So were Rajput women atheists as to not survive the ordeal but choose death instead?

Hindus have very high suicide rate as compared to other religions..so how come praying and idol worship didnt help?

On the other hand a non idol worshiper can be trigger friendly and blow up others or kill others but not commit suicide.

So what say you?
Buddhist monks in Myanmar are violent but the ones in Sri Lanka are peaceful.
What say you?

Act of Jauhar is a well thought out and premeditated act of not getting into the hands of the enemy, so not a suicide out of desperation !!

on the suicide rate, I don't think it is high for Hindus compared to others. In india you gave to look at various factors, extreme poverty, people get into debt with money lending Mafia, love across rigid caste lines, etc.. So not an apples to apples comparison.

you have to look at the mental illness and suicide rates between affluent communities that are religious and that are not.

The fact that the religious pull through extreme situations compared to those that are not, is supported by modern research as well.
