I post from various source, great things happening in India, Indian Ingenuity, tireless Indians trying to help the poor. There are lot of people viewing these but no replies. I am surprised that people championing the poor in India, are not encouraged by these postings.

We are ready to fight on faith or lack of it, or about the Caste system, the sane tired arguments packaged in flowery language. But when practical ideas are posted to uplift the poor, no one cares.

Sri.Prasad, Greetings.

Have you considered the possibility where the persons using 'flowery languages' are already involved in the upliftment of poor persons? Just a thought. thanks.

Cheers!

To the above 2 gengtlemen, many of us are associated with various charities (myself included) for many years. There is such an ocean of poverty, there is absolutely no hope for this country !

With 800 Mil under dire poverty, I dont think anyone cares about the small/tiny positives coming out of India. !!. It is like taking a cup out of the ocean. what u need is a tsunami that will clean up the entire system !! unfortunate but true.

thats why the india shining campaign bombed @ polls.

Well it was an Indian who drank up the ocean...let see who does it this time.

I dont spend whole lot of my time here. I come here to look for information, content or perspective aligned with my faith, religion and community. I do not come here for understanding the economic or political situation.
Of late I have spent time here writing only because of completely polarised and a negative bias I have seen here.
I frankly wouldnt care if those perspectives were carried in a forum that was very self evident from the name, brand, promoters, owners etc., I dropped in and decided to stay in to contribute because there was a country, a religion, a language and a name involved that I felt was not being fairly pictured or portrayed.
I dont claim to be the saviour, and I did not want be a silent observer or consenter either.
I can only say for sure that I have not initiated any controversy, but only participated, to that extent my response has only been from being provoked.

Dear Sri Jaykay767 Ji,

I am with you, but may I make an observation?

I do not think India is poor. I think a large segment of our folks are poor.

This is why the growth of middle class is very important. Because the political pressure has to come from this group and it will. And it will ultimately benefit the poor.

I am not at all pessimistic about India.

Regards,
KRS

Of course statistics has a value, but I think something is patently wrong or distorted.

I would like to know how this 800 million is arrived at. Of course, as seen in tv, there are villages in bihar, up and bengal, where depressing poverty and sub human living conditions are stark. But in states like maharashtra, tamilnadu, even in interior villages, people look 'prosperous', clean streets, decent small houses, decently dressed and 'happy'. If the local people are good and the panchayat is honest, the locals are taken care of. It is an open secret that only 5% of the money allotted for improving villages reaches the recipients - the politicians and goondas swallow the rest; all, right from the top - ministers, bureaucrats, politicians - get their cuts.

In cities it is different. Slums, slum lords, again actively supported by the ruling politicians control the housing and living conditions. Slums have illegal electrical and water connections, and the civic administration will not acknowledge or provide for the services (elec charges are collected by the dons from the tenants by them). Many do earn around rs 5000 per member of the family, but end up paying unspecified amounts to the local dons.

I think there are enough resources and money, but most of it gets into the pockets of our political 'caste' of all parties. Now politics is also becoming birth based!

Only a good king/ ruler or political head with a strong agenda to eliminate corruption and siphoning of money at all levels, and speedy punishment of the guilty will improve the lot of the poor.

I do go through the various links posted by you and read the links (unless they are very lengthy). Many a times they are indications that India is indeed progressing, notwithstanding the over-gloomy position portrayed in the media.

I am at a loss to understand as to what replies you are expecting. Just reproducing your message and writing "I like this post" does not add any value. Comparing and contrasting with other countries etc. is pointless and is the start of unwarranted discussion. Mostly from the 4th post onwards, the argument has moved to the predictable direction of useless war of words. Usage of "like" button is treated as clique formation.

Because the post does not elicit any response if one does not view the same day of posting, it is relegated to somewhere on the second and third pages of "New postings" on the next day and it loses the viewership.

In samskritam how do you derive or specify citizenship? indian, french etc.) I am aware of only vaikunta vasis (departed souls). I think, there is no equivalent in tamil too.

In fact I would think that specification of citizenship is very much existing, from the vedic period itself. Please refer to aruna praSnam (taittiriya aranyaka - Section 1 - anuvaka 27, mantra 115) - "uththishtatha mA svaptha; agnimicChiDhvam BhArathAH" - (loose translation - Wake up/arise, do not sleep; Do the upasana of the bhagwan in the form of agni - Oh citizens/residents of Bharatha country) - source surya namaskara Bhashyam - by Sri Anna - RK mission publication, Chennai

Mr. Zebra16,
Thank you very much for your post. It is good to know that my post is being read.
If you have been in this site long enough you will know that majority of the post are negative about Brahmins, India, Indians, and Hindus. I used to get depressed and on occasion have thought of leaving the site because of the gloom and doom.
Then I stayed on and I do add my POV. I also started posting all the great things happening in India, and good things being done by Indians.
In particular there was a sentiment that China is "so great" and every post will compare India with China to put India down.
So I post these threads so like minded people can post their own observation about accomplishments of India and Indians (including PIO).

Sri.Prasad, Greetings.

Messages about China and China's economy are not putting down India in anyway. I can understand which member you are refering to. That member was posting about China's management skills, customer service commitment, ruthless business practices etc, not for singing the praise for China. He was awe struck when he read those informations; so he posted them. That's all. One does not have to feel gloom and doom on reading those messages. India is an emerging economy; India can do much better.

( by the way, I was right in my post #2. That member is involved in a group that is helping poor persons, now try this for size.... helping poor brahmins in Kerala. Kindly don't judge a person from few messages, please. There is much more depth to that person than he let's others to take note).

Cheers!

Cheers!

Sri.Prasad, Greetings.

I replied to you, addressing you personally in post #12 in this thread. But you have not recognised that response so far. But you are not happy, your posts, posted in general did not receive responses from other members! Sir, kindly if you lead the way by responding every single post addressed to you, others will automatically respond to your posts. Kindly consider this as a suggestion, please.

More over, post #11 by you is not a general message. It indirectly identifies one of the members in this forum. You could as well mentioned that member's name directly. Now that I addressed you with respect to the same member to show that your opinions are misplaced, it is rather disappointing to see the lack of recognition from you. That said member have posted hundreds of messages in praise of India too. I request you to consider your views, please. If you are reluctant to recognise my responses, it is okay. I can always write that member's name in my next message.

Cheers!

Mr. Raghy,
Now who is impatient. Your message was at 10 AM. Some of us do have to work for living.
Thanks for your post. I do not need you to name the member's name.
I have nothing against any member, so please do not do anything. Thanks

Sri.Prasad,

I may seem impatient. But before penning such messagges I do some home work. I did that. Then only I posted my message. Sir, you are a popular veteran in this forum. It would be nice not to form opinions about others. That's why I indulged in this small exercise. Kindly don't get me wrong though - I have had bitter arguments with many members here, including that member in question; but we should give credit where it is due without being judgemental.

Cheers!

Dear Raghy,

I am addressing this to you because I also saw your response in some other thread which related to India's poor response in the field of education and your desire to address the issue by opening a separate thread.

Sir, let us grow out of just sharing web links comparing and contrasting our and other country achievements. Sir, let us build up a knowledge base in our forum.

Our forum boasts of 20500+ members and stalwarts in teaching, music, physics, chemistry, mathematics, astro-physics, medicine, computer software. molecular biology etc. We also know many of our young ones fail in english, science, mathematics, falter in music and dance, have no knowledge of balanced or good diet, fail in entrance tests of IIT/IIMs, bank recruitment tests, UPSC examinations, GRE tests etc.

Can the stalwarts/better than average members contribute about 30 minutes per week for the upliftment of our community (here community is all tamils/Indians as stated in the policy of our website) and open a knowledge series where they contribute in their select area of competence?

For eg. the teachers, professors etc. of say maths or physics can take a topic, explain the concept and solve problems;

the doctors, physicians etc can put up their write up and say what is the balanced or healthy diet say for Indian conditions; bust the myths regarding so many health issues arising out of ignorance

the members in the field of education can give some coaching tutorials to students appearing for UPSC exams, GRE/TOEFL tests and also give tips and hints etc.;

surely there is some theoretical thing in music or dance etc. and the experts in that field can share their knowledge;

the computer specialists can give their insight in their sphere of operations;

the above list is just indicative and there are very many fields which we can add here;

If 5% of our members contribute 30 minutes per week for a society of which they are members, it would amount to not less than 500 hours of knowledge to be assimilated, if one were to read all the knowledge

Do you think then that people will waste all their waking hours in this website trying to mastermind how our ancestors should have or should not have behaved in x fashion, or y fashion or z fashion?

The project may have a slow start and may move only a millimetre at the start, but it would surely a begining, is it not?

It is ironical that all most all the countries spend more than 50% of the national budget on education and health, and we do not even have a thread to cover such topics.

If I do not empower my son to play tennis or squash or badminton, he will continue to play marbles and there is no sense in my giving him a "kuttu" on his head for playing "goli"

Regards,

P.S.: please do not tell me that all these things are available on the net. The caste discussions, which appears to be the back-bone of discussions on our forum, are also on the web.
