How to make Donnais?

Hindus are environmentally friendly. They use perishable materials for Pujas. Donnai, banana leaf cup, is one of them. I fear , in course of time, we may use plastic cups because the priests may forget the art of making them. I took some photos during a puja in Chennai last week. Priest Krishnamurthy raman is making them. Donnai derived from Sanskrit Drona? which gave birth to the word Thoni (boat)? Just guessing!

I wish every Brahmin learns the art of making making Donnai, Purna Kumbham (With yarn beautifully wound round the metal pot), Kurcham and Pavithram. My brother who lives in Karnataka says the Pavithram given to him in Bangalore is very different from Tamil Nadu.

Yes. I do buy from Giri stores or from the Brahmins in front of Ayodhya Manadapam.
But how come it looks different in Karanataka?
Only people like Mr Brahmanyan (of Bangalore) can throw some light?
Have they forgotten the art of making it?

Kurchams and Pavithrams made by us, Tamil Brahmins, are according to Shastaras ( I guess).
