Have the Homeopaths cheated their patients...The answer is yes as the treatment is 0% effective... I think Government should ban this degree & no one should be allowed to practice this profession,,,

A leading scientist has declared homeopathy a "therapeutic dead-end" after a systematic review concluded the controversial treatment was no more effective than placebo drugs.

Professor Paul Glasziou, a leading academic in evidence based medicine at Bond University, was the chair of a working party by the National Health and Medical Research Council which was tasked with reviewing the evidence of 176 trials of homeopathy to establish if the treatment is valid.

A total of 57 systematic reviews, containing the 176 individual studies, focused on 68 different health conditions - and found there to be no evidence homeopathy was more effective than placebo on any.

Homeopathy is an alternative medicine based on the idea of diluting a substance in water. According to the NHS: "Practitioners believe that the more a substance is diluted in this way, the greater its power to treat symptoms. Many homeopathic remedies consist of substances that have been diluted many times in water until there is none or almost none of the original substance left."

The review found "no discernible convincing effects beyond placebo" and concluded "there was no reliable evidence from research in humans that homeopathy was effective for treating the range of health conditions considered".

Writing in a blog for the British Medical Journal, Professor Glasziou states: "As chair of the working party which produced the report I was simply relieved that the arduous journey of sifting and synthesising the evidence was at an end. I had begun the journey with an 'I don't know attitude', curious about whether this unlikely treatment could ever work... but I lost interest after looking at the 57 systematic reviews which contained 176 individual studies and finding no discernible convincing effects beyond placebo."

He continues: "I can well understand why Samuel Hahnemann- the founder of homeopathy- was dissatisfied with the state of 18th century medicine's practices, such as blood-letting and purging and tried to find a better alternative.

"But I would guess he would be disappointed by the collective failure of homeopathy to carry on his innovative investigations, but instead continue to pursue a therapeutic dead-end."

In the UK, two NHS hospitals provide homeopathy, as well as a number of GP practices.

This news is sure to start a heated debate. While, homeopathy doctors claim that they cure the illness, whereas the allopathy (?) cures the symptoms. Homeopathy medicines are found to be effective in few cases - children wetting the bed, scorpion sting, mouth ulcers, stiff neck, bleeding piles - to quote a few. Homeopathy doctors claim that their medicines will not have side effects. Now a days some leading Homeo hospitals (positive homeopathy) advertise cent per cent cure for illness such as diabetics etc. through attractive advertisements.

It will be interesting to watch, how the homeopathy practitioners react to this by putting forth their views !

I do not accept this report. This is totally untrue. Even in allopathy, whether the patients benefits from their treatment or not, definitely the doctors prosper. Likewise, in homeopathy too, the doctors who treat their patients have hugely benefited and are well off with all the heavenly facilities like, own house, car, good lifestyle etc and huge bank balance and continuous patient inpour. Tomorow you will say ayurveda is also not effective. Can you deny the existence of Baba and his famous Yoga and patanjali products. In allopathy, even if the patient dies during the course of treatment or aferwards, you never say the treatment or medicine is ineffective. Then how come you can say homeopathy is ineffective.

Mantar Feru, or give sugar pills, both have the same effect. Both are useless. It is not to say that allopathy is the cure.
Yes allopathy also fails, but has proven track record. There is better chance of cure with allopathy.

The pills ....white in colour shown in post #1 is the base pill. It is not a medicine in itself . This pill is made of some powder. Medicine ..... are different colour liquids kept in bottles. The Homeo doctor put the base pill in the medicinal liquid for some time, then take them out the coloured pills and give it to the patients.

When I was in Kayakumari district I have had two homeo doctor friends.

There are a lot of whole sale homeo medicine -shops in Trivandrum statue area.
There one can get white base pills and different coloured liquids separately.
I do not have that much of a appreciable opinion about homeo treatment.

Even in allopathy, the medicines do not cure the illness/disease directly. The liver reacts, sometimes violently too, to the allopathic medicine stuff which is not compatible with the human body and creates various substances to counteract the medicine stuff. Luckily, these liver-produced substances react with the infecting agent, pain-giving, swelling etc., agents and so we think, at last, that the medicine cures.

Homeopathy doctors are having good practice in Kerala.

Majority of homeo medicines are prepared by Nair community;

Arumana,Thiruvattar....area Nairs of Kanyakumari district, are thriving affluently in whole sale trade of Homeo

medicines at Trivandrum.

Kerala based people are having a lot faith in Homeo and Ayurvedic treatments.

When I asked my doctor brother why homeopathic medicines don't have side effects, he said half jokingly,

'Because they hardly have any effect!'

Homeopathy is like faith healing; unless the patient has a strong belief that it will cure, it will not work! :(

One homeo doctor used to give the first dose of medicine in a piece of paper and ask the patient to pray his

Ishta Deivam, while swallowing it!
